https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/

Marketing in a Digital World

$

As a Microsoft marketer, I’ve seen the digital landscape shift and change monumentally over the past several years, particularly in the B2B space. With the proliferation of smartphones, online resources and social media, customers are empowered with more information and access than ever before.

According to CEB, 57% of B2B purchase evaluation is done without speaking to a human – and this number is likely to grow given the changing workforce demographic, which is shifting over time to include more and more digital natives

So what does this mean for the channel? It means that customers and prospects are either finding your brand (and finding it relevant to follow up with) or, in the worst case scenario, they're not finding you at all.

In Canada in particular, digital marketing gives us access to be able to scale our messages broadly. Canadians are highly engaged on digital -- in fact, according to ComScore, we are one of the most digitally engaged populations on the planet:

Almost 28 million Canadians can be reached online from a desktop/laptop device. 25 million are reached online by desktop videos - and importantly, more than 15 million Canadians are accessing digital information on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

To effectively target your slice of that market - to find customers and be found by them, you need to have a solid owned, earned and paid digital media strategy. This is why we've launched our Partner Digital Marketing Webinar Series to help empower the channel to drive impact in digital marketing efforts. If you are getting started on digital – or looking to scale and deepen your digital lead gen strategy, join the series to hear from Microsoft and Industry experts with deep domain expertise in search engine optimization (SEO), blogging, search engine marketing, social media and more.

Shortlist announced for the UK Cloud Awards 2016

$

Most innovative Cloud providers, products and projects selected from record number of entries.

The Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) and Cloud Pro have today announced the shortlist for the UK Cloud Awards 2016, having narrowed down the hundreds of entries to a select few.

The awards, first launched in 2014, showcase and celebrate the leading Cloud suppliers, technologies and projects in the UK. The ceremony, which is being sponsored by Microsoft, ScienceLogic, Cisco and Spreckley, will reward the best in the industry as chosen by a panel of expert judges. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Skylon in London on 12th April 2016.

Alex Hilton, CEO of CIF, said: “The UK Cloud Awards have significantly accelerated since they were first established and it is clear that the UK is now a hub of Cloud innovation. Whittling the entries down to a shortlist has been very challenging for our esteemed judges, which I think speaks volumes about the depth and maturity of the Cloud industry in the UK. Making the shortlist is an achievement in its own right and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone that has made the cut best of luck at the ceremony.”

Max Cooter, founding editor of Cloud Pro and head judge for the UK Cloud Awards, added: "When the UK Cloud Awards first started, the technology was in its infancy and many companies had failed to recognise the impact that cloud would have on the market. That's no longer the case: this year's awards have emphasised the way that cloud has transformed the business landscape. The projects are no longer single, speculative forays but are part of a wholesale transformation, while the products are increasingly sophisticated. There was a richness to this year's awards that we haven't seen in previous years and all the companies on the shortlist should be congratulated."

The shortlist for the UK Cloud Awards 2016 is as follows (and its great to see many Microsoft Partners shortlisted).

Datenschutz-Grundverordnung nimmt Unternehmen in die Pflicht

$

0

Announcement: Azure RMS Documentation Library Update for March 2016

$

Hi everybody

As per Carol’s introduction post, she's letting you know what's new and hot in the docs for this month.

Reminders: Follow us on twitter (@TheRMSGuy) and join in our RMS peer community at www.yammer.com/AskIPTeam.

Dan (on behalf of the RMS team)

The Documentation Library for Azure Rights Management has been updated on the web and the latest content has Updated: March 1, 2016 (or later) at the top of the page.

Summary of the documentation available: Getting Started with Rights Management | Configuring Rights Management | Using Rights Management | Administering Rights Management by using Windows PowerShell | Rapid Deployment Guide for Azure Rights Management

Plus, the Rights Management sharing application guides (admin guide and user guide) and FAQs (for Windows and mobile platforms).

Most of the doc updates this month are to support the recently updated RMS Protection Tool - with the main page on MSDN being RMS Protection Cmdlets. However, we continue to update the core Azure RMS docs for support changes and to answer your questions. There are no significant changes this month to the documentation for the RMS sharing application.

We value customer feedback and try to incorporate it when possible.  Although we can't promise to make the docs perfect for everybody, we are committed to continual improvement.  If you have any feedback about the docs for the RMS Protection Took, the RMS sharing application, or for Azure RMS, email AskIPTeam@Microsoft.com.

What's New in the Documentation Library for Azure Rights Management, March 2016

The following information lists the articles that have significant changes since the last update (February 2016).

Requirements for Azure Rights Management

- Updated support statements for Windows 10 Mobile, and added Outlook for Android in the client device capabilities table.

 Activating Azure Rights Management

- Added a new procedure if you're using the new Office 365 admin center preview to activate Azure RMS. This activation option is located under Settings> Apps.

Configuring Custom Templates for Azure Rights Management

- Updated to document the new maximum limit of 500 custom templates (published or archived) that you can save in Azure. If you exceed the 500 limit because you have many archived templates, consider exporting the archived templates. This lets you save them locally (to import later if needed), and you can then delete them from Azure.  This limit applies whether you create the templates in the Azure classic portal, or you create or import them by using PowerShell.

Configuring Super Users for Azure Rights Management and Discovery Services or Data Recovery

- Removed the warning that the RMS Protection Tool doesn't support user accounts now that the the 2.1.0.0 version of the RMS Protection PowerShell module is released. However, for automated scenarios (such as scripts that run when you're not signed in, and use with Windows Server File Classification Infrastructure), you should still use a service principal account.

Burst Balloons

$
0
0

I'd like to discuss today a new problem called the "Burst Balloons" problem.

This is an interesting problem because it challenges us to rethink our hypothesis and strengthen it.

In this problem, we are given a set of balloons with numbers on them. The numbers represent the cost of each balloon. If we pop a balloon i, we get coins by the following formula:    B[i - 1]*B[i]*B[i + 1].

Where B[i] represents the cost of balloon i and B[i + 1], B[i - 1] the corresponding costs of the right and left balloons to the ith balloon.

For the sake of this problem, we may assume that B[-1] and B[N + 1] (N = the last balloon) are both 1. The problem asks you to maximize your profit by popping the balloons.

Notice however, that once you pop a balloon i, balloons i - 1 and i + 1 become neighbors of each other.

Let's try to solve this problem with induction:

P(n < N) - we know how to solve the problem for n < N balloons and get the max profit for them.

P(1) -  The base case deals with only a single balloon, in which case the answer is straightforward - we just pop it and collect the coins for it.

P(N) - Assuming we have N balloons, how do we reduce the problem to smaller subproblems ? We have to pop one or more of the balloons to reduce the problem size. However, which balloon should we pop first ? This is tricky. When we pop a balloon we modify the rest of the system. Also, which one maximizes our profit ? At this point, we notice that we need to change our perspective.

What if instead of choosing a balloon to pop first, we actually choose a balloon to pop last ? so we reduce P(N) to P(N - 1) based on the last balloon to pop. This way, our subproblems are not affected by our decision. But which balloon should we save for last ? anyone of them may end up with a different cost. In such a case we are left with no choice but to try every one of them as the last balloon to pop and pick the one that maximizes our profit.

We'll solve this problem using dynamic programming. The recurrence relation is as follows:

D[i,j] = max{over all k: D[i,k - 1] + D[k + 1,j]  + (B[i - 1] * B[k] * B[j + 1])}

notice how this recurrence relation maps to our hypothesis: D[i,j] represents P(N) and D[i,k -1],D[k + 1,j] represent our hypothesis: P(n < N). We multiply B[k] (the last balloon to pop) with B[i - 1] and B[j + 1] because we assume that the rest of the balloons betwee i to k and between k to j have been popped already.

So now, writing the code should be straight forward:
