DevOps Basics: Deploying Azure Resource Manager Templates with Visual Studio Team Services

0
0
When you are using Azure, you are consuming resources. For example, when you want to deploy one virtual machine, in fact you also need one storage account to store the virtual hard disk on it, one network interface to have an internal IP, etc… It’s the concept of Azure Resource Manager (ARM). Azure Resource Manager is like a lego box, and you can build your environments on it. So now, imagine you are developing an application, a website or a simple script, and the result of this...(read more)

Application

ソース:           MSExchangeMonitoringCorrelation

イベント ID:       717

レベル:           警告

説明:

Connection with the Operations Manager Root Management Server failed.

Error: The connection to the Operations Manager Root Management Server 'localhost' has been disconnected.

Number of occurrence: 1

Retrying in 30 seconds...

----------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------

ログの名前:         Application

ソース:           MSExchangeMonitoringCorrelation

イベント ID:       714

レベル:           エラー

説明:

Cannot connect to Operations Manager Root Management Server.

Error: The OpsMgr SDK Service is not running on Operations Manager Root Management Server 'localhost'.

----------------------------------------

C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\SDK Binaries

     DLL:

         Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.OperationsManager.Common.dll

         Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.OperationsManager.dll

   フォルダ: C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007

    DLL:

         MomBidLdr.dll

また、コピー先の相関エンジンのあるフォルダは、以下の通りです。

   C:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin

これらの DLL をコピーしましたら、Microsoft Exchange Monitoring Correlation サービスを再起動します。

補足

~~~~~~
SCOM 2007 R2 を実行するコンピューターが無い場合は、検証環境などにインストールをして、DLL をコピーしてください。
なお、以下の URL から評価版を使用しても問題ございません。
How to Enable Cloud PBX & Modern Voice (PSTN Calling) in Office365
0
0
In this post we will discover how to enable Cloud PBX & Modern Voice in Office365, that will allow a Skype for Business user to send and receive phone calls on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and have access to PBX features. Total time 5-10 minutes.
What is Cloud PBX & Modern Voice (PSTN Calling) in Offie365?
To put it simply, Cloud PBX provides enterprise voice functionality to Skype for Business users in Office365 with the following features:
  • Calling using the Skype for Business mobile app
  • Call hold/retrieve
  • Call transfer
  • Call forwarding
  • Camp On
  • Distinctive Ringing
  • Simultaneous Ringing
  • Voicemail
  • USB peripherals (such as a USB phone)
  • Delegation (Boss/admin)
  • Team Call
  • Basic Call Policy
What are the requirements?
To enable, you must have:
  • An Office365 tenant
  • A E5 subscription (either trial or purchased)
  •  At least one user account located in the tenant
  • Assign the user the full Office365 Enterprise E5 license including the Skype for Business PSTN Cloud PBX, Skype for Business Online (Plan 2) and the Skype for Business PSTN Calling (Domestic/International) license. See below screenshot. For more information see Skype for Business Online Licensing Overview.
Note: If the proper licenses are not assigned, when managing the voice properties of a user the follow error will be displayed:
"This Skype for Business online feature either isn't set up for your organization, or it isn't available at your location"
How Do I Enable?
1) Login to your Office 365 tenant as an administrator
2) From the left side of the Office365 Admin Center, expand Admin and click Skype for Business.
3) From the menu on the left select Voice
4) From the Phone Numbers tab, click the + sign to add a new phone number to the pool.
5) On the New Numbers screen, select the State and City of where the users that will be enabled for voice are located. If the location of where your users are not located, choose the closest location. Type the number of phone numbers you wish to acquire in the Quantity field  and click Add
6) Click Acquire Numbers to complete the task. Please allow a few moments for this to process. Note: The task will time out after 10 minutes.
7) You will be returned to the Phone Numbers tab and the newly acquired numbers will be displayed in a list.
8) Click the Emergency Locations tab and click the + sign to add a new location.
9) In the fly out window on the right side, complete all fields and click Validate. This will validate the entered address with the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG).
Note: The system may display the following message during address validation. Confirm the address you entered is correct and/or confirm the newly modified address is correct and click Save.
IMPORTANT: For more information on Emergency Locations and Emergency Calling (911) please refer to the following article: What are emergency locations, addresses and call routing?
10) You will be returned to the Emergency Locations tab where the new address is now listed. Click the Voice Users tab.
11) Check the box next to the user you wish to assign a phone number to, using the fly out on the right side of the screen, click Assign Number.  (If needed click the magnifying glass to search for the user)
12) Using the fly out on the right side of the screen, click the drop down menu under Assign Number and select the phone number you wish to assign to the user. Next, under the Associated Emergency Location section, search for the city that is associated with the phone number you are assigning using the Find City search box. Then select the Emergency Address from the drop down menu and click Save. This will associate the emergency address to the phone number (this can be changed later).
Note: You may need to browse back to the Emergency Locations tab to find the correct city name, if the MSAG changed the city to an abbreviation (e.g. SD for San Diego)
13) Read the Emergency Address Disclaimer pop-up completely. If you understand and agree, click Agree. If you do not, click Decline.
14) You will be returned to the Voice Users tab. Notice the new phone number and it's associated Emergency Location assigned to the user. (The Emergency Location associated with this user can be modified by clicking the Change button)
15) Enablement and configuration is now complete. To validate, login to a Skype for Business desktop client as the user.
Note: Basic call testing can also be performed using the mobile client for iOS, Android or Windows Phone.
16) Click the Dial Pad, type a telephone number and press Enter to dial the number.
17) Skype for Business will dial the number and will connect the call. Once connected, note the various call control features such as Hold and Transfer. Also note, the Devices button which allows you to switch between USB devices (such as a headset to speakerphone). Clicking the Invite More People button will allow you to add another Skype for Business user or telephone number to the call and will immediately turn into a conference call with the conferencing feature set (see How to Enable Cloud PSTN Conferencing in Office365 for more information on the available features)
Note: The user's presence will change to In a Call
Note
: If performing a test call from the Skype for Business Mobile App on a smartphone, similar in-call features will be available. The following screenshot is from an iPhone displaying the features available while in a current call.
18) Hang up the call. Next let's test voicemail. Place a test call to the new phone number assigned to the user, and leave a test voicemail message.
19) Logon to the user's mailbox using either Outlook or Outlook Web App. The new voicemail message will arrive as a new email in the user's inbox. The message will be in the form of an .mp3 audio file attached to the message.
20) On the Skype for Business client from within the Dial Pad screen click the voicemail icon. This will allow you to setup voicemail, configure your voicemail greeting, or call Outlook Voice Access to listen to your voicemail messages.
21) From within the Skype for Business client, click the gear icon   to access the Options dialog box.
22) Click Call Forwarding on the left side. This will display various options related to Call Forwarding or Simultaneous Ring with advanced options for Team Call and Delegates.
That's it! Cloud PBX and Modern Voice is that easy! Stay tuned for additional blog posts on advanced configuration such as Phone Number Porting and managing voice features using PowerShell. Enjoy!
Donner aux jeunes ghanéens l’avantage de l’employabilité
Par : Derek Appiah, Responsable pays, Microsoft Ghana
Depuis l’arrivée de Microsoft au Ghana il y a 10 ans, on a constaté une très forte hausse de la disponibilité de la large bande et de la pénétration d’Internet dans le pays. Cela en a fait un terrain fertile pour la culture numérique et l’utilisation de la technologie comme moteur de la transformation économique et sociale.
Lorsque j’ai rejoint la compagnie, j’ai dit que les jeunes ghanéens se surpassaient sur le plan intellectuel – et j’en suis aujourd’hui plus que jamais convaincu.
C’est l’une des raisons pour lesquelles je suis très séduit par notre plate-forme d’employabilité en ligne, TizaaWorks, lancée en mai 2015. Nous considérons cette plate-forme comme un guichet unique de services pour les jeunes ghanéens qui leur permet d’améliorer leur employabilité et leurs compétences entrepreneuriales. À travers notre partenariat avec IICD, nous avons pu proposer à plus de 1400 Ghanéens des conseils de carrière, des cours, un soutien entrepreneurial, ainsi qu’un accès à des évènements divers et variés et à des offres d’emploi.
Nous sommes très contents de ces résultats mais nous voulons désormais plus que jamais atteindre encore plus de Ghanéens et leur donner les outils dont ils ont besoin pour améliorer leur employabilité. Avec cet objectif en tête, nous sommes ravis d’accueillir World Vision, notre nouveau partenaire de mise en œuvre de la plate-forme TizaaWorks, suite à la cessation des opérations de l’IICD à La Hague.
World Vision a fait ses preuves en tant qu’organisation humanitaire chrétienne en ayant déjà aidé plus de quatre millions d’enfants et leurs familles. À présent, notre objectif est de travailler ensemble pour doter 20 000 jeunes désavantagés issus des communautés rurales des compétences nécessaires pour faire une entrée réussie sur le marché du travail et rivaliser avec leurs compatriotes des villes.
Nous avons à cœur de travailler avec World Vision pour élargir notre portée et identifier de nouvelles façons de mettre les jeunes Ghanéens en contact avec des possibilités de formation, d’emploi et d’entreprenariat. C’est un bon moyen pour nous de continuer à travailler à la réalisation notre objectif qui est de jouer un rôle actif dans la transformation de l’éducation et des jeunes au Ghana à travers l’utilisation de la technologie.
Proporcionando ao jovens Ganeses uma vantagem de empregabilidade
Por: Derek Appiah, Gerente Nacional, Microsoft Gana
Durante os 10 anos em que a Microsoft esteve em operação no Gana, verificou-se um crescimento enorme na disponibilidade de banda larga e penetração da internet no país. Isto proporcionou um ambiente propício para a literacia digital e uso de tecnologia para impulsionar transformação económica e social.
Quando ingressei na companhia afirmei que a juventude do Gana excede as suas expectativas intelectualmente – e agora acredito nisso mais que nunca.
Esta é uma das razões porque estou entusiasmado sobre a nossa plataforma de empregabilidade em linha, TizaaWorks, lançada em Maio de 2015. Encaramos a plataforma como uma loja de paragem única para a juventude do Gana ter acesso a serviços que os auxiliam a melhorar a sua empregabilidade e competências empresariais. Através da nossa parceria com IICD, pudemos oferecer a mais de 1400 Ganeses orientação sobre carreira, cursos, apoio empresarial, e acesso a acontecimentos e anúncios de emprego.
Estamos entusiasmados com estes resultados, mas estamos agora ainda mais ansiosos por alcançar ainda mais jovens Ganeses e proporcionar-lhes as ferramentas de que necessitam para melhorarem a sua empregabilidade. Com isto em mente, estamos entusiasmados em dar as boas vindas à chegada da World Vision como nosso novo parceiro de implementação para TizaaWorks, pois IICD termina as operações em Haia.
World Vision demonstrou o seu valor, tendo já beneficiado mais de quatro milhões de crianças e suas famílias na sua capacidade de organização humanitária Cristã. Agora, o nosso objectivo é de trabalhar com eles para equipar 20 000 jovens desvantajados de comunidades rurais com as competências de que necessitam para entrarem com êxito no mercado profissional e competir com os seus homólogos nas cidades.
Estamos ansiosos por trabalhar com World Vision para ampliar o nosso alcance e identificar novos modos de ligação com os jovens Ganeses com oportunidade de formação, emprego e espírito empresarial. Este é um excelente modo para continuarmos a trabalhar para alcançar o nosso objectivo de desempenhar um papel activo na transformação da educação e jovens do Gana através do uso de tecnologia.
(Cloud) Tip of the Day: Azure VM Scale Sets public preview
0
0
Today’s Tip…
We have announced the public preview of Azure Virtual Machine Scale Sets. VM Scale Sets are an Azure Compute resource you can use to deploy and manage a collection of virtual machines as a set. Scale sets are well suited for building large-scale services targeting big compute, big data, and containerized workloads – all of which are increasing in significance as cloud computing continues to evolve.
Scale set VMs are configured identically, you just choose how many you need, which enables them to scale out and in rapidly and automatically. Integrating with Azure Insights Autoscale, they provide true autoscale with no need to pre-provision VMs, allowing you to use only the compute resources your application needs at any time. You can deploy VM Scale Sets using Azure Resource Manager templates and they support Windows and Linux platform images, as well as custom images and extensions. VM Scale Sets also integrate with Azure networking resources such as Load Balancers and Network Security Groups, making it easy to spread workloads across the VMs of a VM Scale Set, and to configure NAT rules so that you can connect to specific VM instances for troubleshooting.
#PapierlosLernen: Bleistift, Füller, Surface Pen – die Evolution des Schreibgeräts
0
0
Unter dem Motto „Tausche 2kg Papier gegen ein Surface mit Office“ haben die beiden Schüler Marco Nagels und Sebastian Franz im Spätsommer ein Experiment an ihrem Gymnasium gestartet - #PapierlosLernen. Auf unserem Blog berichten die beiden 16-jährigen regelmäßig von ihren Erfahrungen.
Das erste Schulhalbjahr unseres Projekts #PapierlosLernen mit dem Surface 3, Office 365 und OneNote neigt sich bereits dem Ende. Mittlerweile ist es für uns, unsere Mitschüler und unsere Lehrer ganz selbstverständlich, dass wir im Unterricht anstelle von Heft und Füller eben unser Surface und den Surface Pen vor uns liegen haben. Es ist für uns natürlich eine Umstellung, nicht mehr auf die analogen Schreibutensilien zu setzen, mit denen wir bis dahin unsere gesamte Schulzeit bestritten haben. Wir fühlten uns anfangs fast an die dritte Klasse erinnert, als man uns erstmals einen Füller zum Schreiben gab.
Ein fast natürliches Schreibgefühl mit dem Surface Pen
Der Surface Pen trifft auf der Oberfläche des Surface eben nicht auf den gleichen Widerstand, den man von Kugelschreiber oder Füller auf Papier gewohnt ist. Dieser Widerstand lässt sich allerdings durch die Gummispitze recht gut imitieren, wodurch sich das Schreibgefühl erheblich verbessert hat und von uns als viel natürlicher empfunden wird. Der Stift gleitet so nicht zu schnell über die Oberfläche, was für Skizzen, Rechnungen oder Notizen hilfreich ist. Dabei ist besonders praktisch, dass der Surface Pen im Grunde alle bisherigen Stifte aus der Federmappe vereint und dadurch ersetzt. Schriftgröße und Farbe sind frei einstellbar und auf der Rückseite befindet sich, ganz wie bei einem Bleistift, der Radiergummi. Damit lässt sich mit dem Surface Pen quasi jede Aufgabenstellung während des Unterrichts erledigen.
Flexibel im Einsatz: Im Unterricht der Surface Pen – zu Hause lieber die Tastatur
Wir nutzen den Surface Pen gerade während der Unterrichtsstunden, wodurch sich unsere Arbeitsprozesse rein äußerlich kaum von denen der anderen Schüler unterscheiden, die mit ihren Stiften statt auf dem Surface eben in ihre Schreibblöcke und Hefte schreiben.  Zur Erledigung unserer Hausaufgaben hingegen greifen wir lieber auf die Tastatur zurück. Bei längeren Texten ist der Schreibprozess mit der Tatstatur einfach angenehmer und das Schriftbild ehrlicherweise auch etwas leserlicher. Texte und Tabellen lassen sich mit Hilfe der Tastatur nicht nur schneller erstellen, sondern auch bearbeiten.
Zuhause haben wir außerdem die Wahl, ob wir weiter am Surface mit dessen Tastatur arbeiten oder am Computer, dessen Bildschirm und Tastatur größer sind. Den Arbeitsfluss stört der Wechsel des Geräts überhaupt nicht. Wir arbeiten ja mit Office 365, wodurch unsere Dokumente dank der Cloud laufend auf dem aktuellen Stand sind. Wenn wir gemeinsam an einer Gruppenarbeit beteiligt sind, könnten wir sogar  zeitgleich die Dokumente gemeinsam bearbeiten, ein echter Vorteil.
Lernen und Lehren auf allen Geräten
Gerätübergreifend auf unsere Arbeitsergebnisse zugreifen zu können, ist aber noch aus einem anderen Grund sehr praktisch: So wie man sein Schulheft zu Hause vergessen kann, weil man das falsche greift, vergessen wir unser Surface natürlich nicht. Schließlich nutzen wir es jeden Tag für sämtliche Fächer. Was eher mal passieren kann, ist, dass man in der Hektik des Schulalltags sein Ladekabel vergisst. Die Ausrede brauchen wir bei vergessenen Hausaufgaben aber gar nicht erst zu bemühen. Schließlich können wir auf erledigte Hausaufgaben ebenfalls mit dem Smartphone zugreifen und unsere Ergebnisse abrufen. Auch wenn bei uns eigentlich ein Handyverbot während des Unterrichts gilt, können wir auf diese Weise eine Ausnahmesituation schon einmal überbrücken. Und so sehen auch die Lehrer, dass moderne Technologie im Unterricht nicht zwingend ein Störfaktor, sondern eine sinnvolle Ergänzung ist. In unserem nächsten Blog Post wollen wir euch ein paar Tipps zu den besten Tools geben, die wir zum Lernen nutzen.
Ein Gastbeitrag von Sebastian Franz und Marco Nagels.
Digital håndskrift øger læring og kreativitet i klasseværelset
0
0
Hvornår har du sidst taget noter med blyant og papir? For mange vil notetagning nok være outsourcet til computeren eller smartphonen. Det gælder også i de danske klasseværelser, der synes at have vandtætte skotter mellem den fysiske håndskrift og de digitale læringsredskaber som fx en tablet eller computer. Men der er og har altid været store pædagogiske fordele ved de håndskrevne noter.
Vi vil nu kort gennemgå hvordan disse fordele kan integreres digitalt – og hvordan danske uddannelsesinstitutioner kan få fingrene i et device, der kan høste disse pædagogiske fordele.
Når elever skal reflektere, skitsere, organisere og huske, får de et større læringsudbytte ved at tage noter i hånden, hvilket den pædagogiske forsknings resultater gentagne gange har vist.
Professor Sharon Oviatt har i et whitepaper (som du kan finde link til nederst i indlægget) præsenteret sin forskning, der har fundet frem til, at elever producerer 56% flere figurer, tal og symboler når de har adgang til en digital pen. Omvendt producerede elever der kun havde adgang til keyboard-input 41% mere tekst men var langt mindre kreative i forhold til dem, der havde adgang til en digital pen. Samtidigt finder Oviatt, at en kombination af disse input-muligheder både øger læringen og kreativiteten i klasseværelset.
Nutidens elever kan faktisk allerede nu interagere med deres computer på flere måder – både med berøring, en pen, med tastatur og med tale. Med en hybrid-løsning som Surface 3 er eleverne sådan set kun begrænset i deres fantasi, og denne unikke kombination af inputmuligheder er karakteristisk for Microsofts Surface-serie, der samtidigt kører Windows 10.
Den digitale pen er en del af et kampagnetilbud på Surface 3 med tilhørende tastatur, som uddannelsesinstitutioner lige nu kan få fingre i fra kun 3.399,- Sammen med Surface 3, der er den ideelle pc og tablet i én, styrker den digitale pen innovativ og læring i klasselokalet. Eleverne kan både tegne, highligte tekst og skrive direkte på skærmen, som de derefter kan konvertere til en søgbar tekst.
Du kan læse meget mere om fordelene ved digital håndskrift i klasseværelset på dette site: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/educators/digital-ink/download-whitepaper/default.aspx
Lær mere om tilbuddet på Surface ved at kontakte din institutions forhandler af it-udstyr. Tilbuddet gælder frem til 30. juni 2016.
Geteiltes Yammer(n): So geht Teamwork
0
0
Der heutige Arbeitsalltag fordert interaktive Kommunikation. Das mobile Arbeitsumfeld streckt sich vom Home-Office, Büro, Kundenterminen, dem Flughafen bis hin zum Café. Bei Microsoft Deutschland ist der Arbeitsplatz dort, wo der Mitarbeiter ist. Wir nennen das #Vertrauensarbeitsort. Interaktives Arbeiten nimmt dabei einen hohen Stellenwert ein. Jetzt wird es noch ein Stück leichter. Nun können auf Yammer eingestellte Word-, Excel- und PowerPoint-Dateien gemeinsam und parallel bearbeitet werden – ganz unkompliziert, direkt und schnell. Kurzum: Eine Plattform, eine Datei und keine Umwege. Hier ein erster Einblick, wie es praktisch aussieht:
Dateien lassen sich via Office Online jetzt gemeinsam bearbeiten. Die Vorgänge werden automatisch gespeichert. Kollegen können unmittelbar am Dokument mitarbeiten. Per Notifikation werden die Beteiligten über den aktuellen Stand und den dafür verantwortlichen Kollegen informiert.
Informationen zu weiteren Neuerungen in Yammer finden sich hier: Microsoft Fire Hose Blog
Yammer und Office sind die Tools der Wahl, wenn es darum geht, Teams produktiver zu machen und miteinander zu vernetzen. Zusammen erfüllen sie damit die wichtigsten Anforderungen an die Wissensarbeit der Zukunft.
Nyheder i Office 365 v. Torben Andersen, teknologirådgiver i Microsoft Danmark
Hvad sker der inden for Office 365? Torben Andersen vil i vanlig stil opdatere gæsterne på de væsentligste nyheder inden for Office 365, herunder de nye funktioner i Office 2016 til Windows, hjælp til læsesvage med OneNote Learning Tools og muligvis mere – der kan i Office 365 altid nå at komme markante nyheder mellem nærværende teksts redaktionstidspunkt og netværksmødet!
Internet of Things i fremtidens klasseværelse v. Jon Bille
Nogen siger at 2016 bliver et af de år vi vil tænke tilbage på som ét der ændrede verdens gang. På lige fod med internettet, månelandingen og elektriciteten. Du har måske hørt om begrebet Internet of Things. En verden hvor alt er forbundet til nettet – og dermed hinanden. Fremtidsforskerne har ideer om hvordan vores verden kommer til at se ud til den tid. Hvilke spørgsmål stiller du til dig selv og din omverden når din krop går online? Og måske vigtigst af alt – hvad betyder det for vores læringsmiljø og vores opfattelse af undervisning? Vallensbæk Kommune har konkret lavet deres første IoT-projekt med fokus på indeklima. Hvad kan vi lære?
Teknisk spor
1. Office 365 og EUs dataforordning v. Ole Kjeldsen (Teknologi- & sikkerhedsdirektør i Microsoft Danmark)
EU er ved at gøre klar til endelig vedtagelse af persondataforordningen. Det giver mange organisationer grund til at overveje hvad man kan gøre for at blive klar ikke mindst i sine IT-understøttede løsninger - uddannelsesinstitutioner er ingen undtagelse. Ole giver med dette oplæg et overblik over de vigtigste elementer af persondataforordningen. Han belyser hvornår den forventes implementeret og hvilke krav der stilles til de to vigtige roller som databehandler og dataansvarlig. I Office 365 er Microsoft databehandler og Ole gennemgår, hvad vi gør for at leve op til kravene, og for at hjælpe jer med at leve op til jeres rolle som dataansvarlig.
Device management i Office 365 v. Klaus Østergren Solution Architect, Cloud and IT Infrastructure hos ProActive A/S
For at sikre jeres data i Office 365 er det nødvendigt at se på hvordan de enheder, der tilgår data, sikres. Når brugerne allerede er oprettet i Office 365 er Enterprise Mobility Suite et godt match, da den er baseret på, at brugerne findes i AzureAD. Klaus Østergren vil demonstrere, hvordan EMS kan sættes om på PC’er, Mac’s og iPads sættes op, så de leverer op til kraven i forhold til EU’s dataforordning. Desuden præsenteres det, hvordan Apps kan håndteres på Windows 10 og iPads.
Pædagogisk spor
Det pædagogiske potentiale i skyen v. Anne Mette Lundstrøm,IT-Pædagogisk Konsulent i IT-Center Fyn.
Anne Mette Lundstrøm stiller det grundlæggende spørgsmål: hvilket pædagogisk udbytte har undervisere egentlig af at arbejde i skyen? Med udgangspunkt i begreber som kollaboration og flipped learning vil der i oplægget blive præsenteret eksempler på hvordan IT-Center Fyn tilrettelægger og gennemfører forskellige former for blended kompetenceudvikling, hvor Office 365 og Office Mix indgår med henblik på at gøre eleverne til aktive producenter i undervisningen.
IT-Center Fyn er et partnerfællesskab bestående af 37 skoler (STX.HF,VUC og SOSU)
Målstyret læring og individualiseret undervisning med OneNote v. Peter Olsen, underviser på Tornbjerg Gymnasium og gymnasiekonsulent.
Peter Olsen underviser på Tornbjerg Gymnasium i matematik og fysik og er desuden også gymnasiekonsulent for IT-Center Fyn. For Peter er OneNote klassenotesbogen meget mere end bare en notesbog. Anvendt på e-tavle eller projektor og som organiseringsværktøj giver det helt nye muligheder for at inddrage og engagere eleverne i målstyret undervisning. Man får et suverænt indblik i den enkelte elevs faglige forståelse, og eleverne skriver ikke længere af fra tavlen men supplerer denne med egne personlige noter og deltager (igen) aktivt i undervisningen!
Der sættes endvidere fokus på at skabe orden i elevernes "kaotiske viden" med nemt oprettede puslespil samt på dynamisk gruppearbejde med matriksgrupper, som udnyttes maksimalt til elevaktivering og differentieret undervisning. Synlig læring, formativ evaluering, elevaktivering, individuel vejledning og respons samt videndeling kommer således næsten automatisk i fokus, når klassenotesbogens mange muligheder udnyttes i undervisningen!
The online proctoring exam experience
 By Chris Testa-O’Neill, Data Platform MVP and founder & Principal Consultant at Claribi. Chris is a regular speaker on the international SQL Server conference circuit, and an organiser of SQLBits and SQLRelay. He has been a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) for the past 16 years, having both authored and delivered Microsoft official courses.
I am always keen to keep up with the certifications within the areas that I work - this includes most of the SQL Server and Active Directory certifications, and more recently Azure certifications as well. In early February I was fortunate to take part in the Big Data and Azure Infrastructure beta exams.
Of course, with new technologies you will expect changes. The biggest and most welcome change was the fact that these exams took place in my home, on a Friday and Saturday night, with the new online proctored exam.
What does this mean?
Well, it means that you can take the exam from your office or even in the comfort of your own home. Here are some tips to prepare you for this type of exam.
Run the system check
When you receive your confirmation email for the exam, do run the system check that is in a link within the email. I would advise doing this a few days before the exam so that you avoid any last minute problems. If the system check does not pass, you cannot take the exam!
This will check that your system can support the exam using an .exe file named PVProctor.exe. It also checks that your webcam and mic work - this is so that the remote proctor can see, and if necessary speak, to you. You can uninstall this .exe after the exam.
Click the right link
Make sure you click the right link to start the exam. It’s not so clear how to start it if you don’t read the instructions on the email. You start your exam as highlighted in the graphic when you access your Microsoft Learning dashboard:
This will then redirect you to the Pearson Vue testing site where you can click on the link to start the exam. Note that you will run through the system check again.
Be prepared to receive a phone call
During the system check you are asked to take a photo of yourself and of your ID. If the ID is blurry and you can’t get a good picture, you will receive a call from the remote proctor who will ask you to take a picture of your ID on your phone and transfer the picture to a secure site. Once this is done you will be asked to put your phone away.
Empty your pockets
You will be asked to turn out your pockets to ensure that the contents are empty.
Clear your walls of any technology posters
My home office has, well, quite a few SQL Server items on the wall. Diagrams of DMVs or anything with text on it you will be asked to remove. I would remove these before you start your exam!
Was it worth it?
Absolutely. For a number of reasons:
  1. I was able to schedule the exam away from my core working hours where I am with customers. Friday and Saturday night 8pm – 12am helped that.
  2. I saved the time that I would have lost in just the travel to exam centre alone. In the UK, we are lucky with the amount of testing centres we have, but there are still people who would have to take a full day of work to take an exam. This time can be saved with this delivery method
  3. My interaction with the proctor was quick and professional. Their objective is to get you settled into the exam as soon as possible
So next time you book an exam, I would recommend the Online Proctor approach!
Where can I find out more?
You can find all of the information you need on technical certifications and training on the Microsoft Learning page. There’s also details on finding your right IT certification and the nearest test centre.
Have any further questions about Online Proctored Exams? All of the details can be found on the Online Proctored Exam page.
The Anatomy of a Good SCOM Alert Management Process – Part 2: Road blocks to good alert management.
0
0
This is my second article in a 3 part series.  Part 1 is here.
What is the goal of an Alert Management Process?
The question at hand seems rather obvious as the goal of an alert management process should in some capacity to fix technology problems in the organization.  Yet when it comes to implementation, rarely do I see good alert management in place, and that has a lot to do with a product that is put in place without any reasonable goals.  Organizations spend money to purchase System Center.  They spend countless hours planning their SCOM layout, sizing their environment, deploying agents, and installing management packs.  Yet virtually no time is spent planning on how they will use it, what they will use it for, what processes need to be changed, and identifying new processes to implement.
The lack of a clear goal is problem number 1.  Regardless of the organization, I tend to think that the goal of alert management should be the same.  The primary goal of SCOM alert management should be to make EVERY alert actionable.  The secondary goal is to ensure that actions are being taken on every alert.
Out of the box, SCOM will not accomplish either task, but it does provide you with the tools to accomplish them.  The primary goal is hindered by a product that can generate plenty of noise, as default management pack settings are rarely perfect for an environment.  Likewise, standard actions taken by an IT staff (such as rebooting a server) can generate alerts as well if there isn’t a process in place to put the server into maintenance mode.  These can only be addressed by changing or adding processes, and that has to start with management.
In the next article, I will go over these problems in a bit more detail.  In this article, I’m going to cover the main road bocks that I’ve observed.
Management Issues
The largest failure, in my opinion to an alert management lifecycle is the lack of a clear directive from senior IT management to embrace it.  In most larger organizations, SCOM is owned by the monitoring team, who has a directive to monitor.  That directive rarely has any depth to it, nor is it clearly articulated to other teams.  Because of this, the team implementing SCOM is often doing it on an island.  I’d add that while my expertise is in SCOM, I would be willing to bet that other products have the exact same issues.  The following items are what should be supplied by management:
  1. Clear directive to all teams that a monitoring solution will be implemented.  Accountability needs established with each team as to what their responsibilities will be with the monitoring system that is in place.
  2. Management should define what is to be monitored.  Perhaps we don’t want to put an agent on that dev box (since it will generate noise).  Or perhaps instead we have a dev monitoring environment where we put our development systems so that we can test and tune new MPs in an environment that isn’t going to interfere with our administrator’s daily jobs.
  3. Management needs to define which business processes are most critical and as such deserve the most attention.  I think it goes without saying, but just because Microsoft makes a Print Server Management pack does not mean the monitoring team should be installing it (and if by chance you do, please for the sake of your DataWarehouse turn off the performance collection rules). Perhaps there’s a good reason to do it, but items like this are typically much lower priority than say that critical business application that will be a major crisis when its down.  We IT guys are task oriented, and we don’t always have the same opinion as management as to what is and isn’t important.  If your team isn’t empowered to make and enforce the necessary decisions, then it would be wise to at the very least weigh in on what you want monitored and slowly expand the environment once the key business processes are being monitored in a way that the business deems appropriate.
  4. Management needs to clearly state that they expect their IT organization to change its processes to respond to SCOM alerts.  This will not happen organically, no matter how much we want it to.  Quite frankly if this isn’t done, implementing SCOM or any other monitoring solution will be a complete waste of time. In order for this to work in the SCOM environment, all IT teams have to actually be using SCOM.  This means using the console.  The SCOM administrator can create custom views, dashboards, roles, etc. to reduce the clutter inside of the environment, but the SQL team needs to be watching SQL alerts daily. The SharePoint guys need to be looking at SharePoint alerts daily  The Exchange guys need to be looking at Exchange daily.. etc. etc. etc.  This will not be solved by turning alerts into tickets (not initially at least), nor will it be solved by creating an email alert. If SCOM is to be rolled out, and you want the benefits of rolling it out, then your IT staff needs to be using it in the way it was intended.  That means being in the console daily and managing what you are responsible for.
What you have if these three items aren’t accomplished is a “check the box” solution instead of a solution that will actually facilitate good ITSM processes.  Management said to roll out monitoring, so we did.  Never mind the fact that management never told us what to monitor and how to use it, so we just tossed in a few management packs because they seemed like good ideas and never bothered addressing the items they brought up. And as such, that really cool PKI management pack that we rolled out told us that certificate X was about to expire, but since no one bothered to do anything with the alert for the 21 days it sat in the console, the cert still expired and the system still went down (and yes, I’ve seen this happen more than once).
People Issues
People are often times just as much of a problem as management, and often when there’s no clear directive from management, that essentially gives people the permission to do what they want.  Often times, that will be nothing.
As a general rule of thumb, people don’t appreciate having someone tell them what they are doing is wrong.  We are proud of our work, and we would like to believe that we know exactly what we are doing, and some cultures (especially the unhealthy ones) relish making people pay for their mistakes.  The reality though is that we aren’t perfect, we do make mistakes, and having something tell us that is a good thing.  Unfortunately, we don’t appreciate that advise.  As such, people love to do the following:
  1. Refuse to use the product or decide to use it in a way that is counterproductive.
  2. Blow off the Tier 1 people responsible for triaging alerts (if Tier 1 is doing this).
  3. Blow off the SCOM administrator responsible for tuning SCOM.
That tends to discourage any real org change from happening. The Tier 1 guys eventually stop calling.  If you have a really good SCOM administrator, he or she finds a new job at Microsoft or chooses to focus their efforts elsewhere (since rarely is monitoring their only responsibility).  These people are being asked to solve technical problems, but most IT guys aren’t very good at solving people problems.
Technical Issues
I don’t want to pretend that SCOM is a perfect solution.  It’s not, but it does work very well when used in the way it was intended to be used.  The reality however is that out of the box, SCOM will generate A LOT of noise.  The Tuning process will be covered more in the next article, but the bottom line is that it MUST be done. SCOM isn’t smart enough to know that the Web Application that you have turned off is supposed to be turned off.  It just knows that its off and tells you (repeatedly in some scenarios).  It doesn’t know what thresholds are appropriate for your organization.  You have to set them.  It is smart enough to tell you things that it needs to do its job, but you have to do those things.
Out of the box, SCOM is usually going to tell you a lot of things. That will be overwhelming to most people as they often see hundreds of alerts, and not all of them are intuitive (for the most part they are or can be researched pretty easily, but it will require effort).  Alerts generally require a certain amount of troubleshooting, and they can take a lot of time to fix.  Not to mention, the skillset and/or permissions needed isn’t always going to be centered with the SCOM administrator.  If it’s going to work, it has to be a team effort, and that will mean lots of change.
SPLA Reporting - Adding virtualization hosts to SILA
0
0
In previous posts I've described the components of Microsoft SPLA Reporting toolset and provided a step-by-step guide how to install SILA Server in your production environment.
In this post I'll show how to add virtualization hosts to SILA. You can add Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere (ESXi), Citrix XenServer, KVM and Xen virtualization hosts. I will provide step-by-step instructions for 2 most popular hypervisors among my partners - Hyper-V and vSphere, and a brief overview of Xen\KVM procedure. Nobody uses Citrix XenServer among my partners, so sorry, I have no details here.
To continue with a deployment, let's check that you're done with previous steps:
  1. SILA server is up and running
  2. SIL Certificate (pfx file) is issued and stored in a good location. You remember the PFX file password and certificate thumbprint.
Add Hyper-V hosts
To create the most full inventory reports, you need to add all your Hyper-V hosts to SILA server. VMM is not required for this. I've tested SILA with Hyper-V based on Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4. My Hyper-V hosts are joined to the Active Directory domain cosn.hostingcloud.huand stored in the "Hyper-V Hosts" organizational unit. First of all, create SILA Hyper-V account in AD, which SILA will use to connect to Hyper-V hosts. In my case it is silahvacc@cosn.hostingcloud.hu.
We need to add this user account to local groups "Hyper-V Administrators" and "Remote Management Users" on every Hyper-V host. You can do it manually, but if you have a lot of Hyper-V hosts it is boring. To eliminate manual activities, I will use a domain Group Policy. Open Group Policy Management console using any Domain Admin user account. You can go to any domain controller and open it there, or you can install this console on SILA server.
Click on the organizational unit with Hyper-V hosts and choose "Create a GPO in this domain and Link it here". I will call it "Add SILA Hyper-V Account".
Go to the GPO policies and choose "Disable User configuration policies", because this policy will be applied only on computer settings.
After that, go to Computer Configuration -> Control Panel Settings -> Local Users and Groups and click "Local Group".
Choose Action = Update, in Group Name field type "Hyper-V Administrators". Click "Add" and choose the AD account that you've recently created. Repeat the same for "Remote Management Users" group.
Click OK and wait for an hour - Hyper-V hosts need to update Group policies and in my case - add silahvacc@cosn.hostingcloud.hu account to local "Hyper-V Administrators" and "Remote Management Users" groups.
OK, we're all set to add Hyper-V hosts to SILA. Logon to SILA Server using SILA Service Account (in my case - silaacc).
To add Hyper-V hosts manually one by one, just run these commands in PowerShell and specify SILA Hyper-V Account credentials (in my case - silahvacc@cosn.hostingcloud.hu).
$Credentials = Get-Credential
$HostFQDN = "
FQDNOFHYPERVHOST"
Add-SILVMHost -VMHostname $HostFQDN -hostcredential $Credentials
When you run this command, SILA service tries to connect to the remote host directly using the specified credentials and determine its hypervisor type. SILA automatically detects if it is a Hyper-V, ESXi, KVM of Xen host. But if you have a lot of Hyper-V hosts, I recommend you to automate this process with a scheduled PowerShell script. This script finds all computer accounts in the specified OU and adds them to SILA. You can schedule this script for a weekly basis using task scheduler.
First of all, install Active Directory PowerShell extensions on the SILA server and check if it works:
Here is the script:
$Password = ConvertTo-SecureString "SILAHyperVAccountPassword" -AsPlainText –Force
$Credentials = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential ("SILAHyperVAccountName@domain.com", $Password)
$HyperVHosts = Get-ADComputer -SearchBase 'OU=yourdomain,dc=domain,dc=com' -Filter '*' | Select -Expand DNSHostName
Foreach ($HyperVHost in $HyperVHosts) { Add-SILVMHost -VMHostname -$HyperVHost -Force -Hostcredential $Credentials }
I saved this script to SILA Service Account "Documents" folder. I my case it is C:\Users\silaacc\Documents\Add-SILAHyperVHosts.ps1.
Open Task Scheduler to create a task to run this script once a week. Click "Create Basic Task".
Program to sun: powershell.exe C:\SCRIPTLOCATION\SCRIPTFILENAME.ps1
After creating the task, open its properties and select "Run whether user is logged on or not" and "Run with highest privileges".
Run the task and check that last run result is successful.
Check that all hosts in the specified OU were added to SILA. To do this, run "Get-SILVMHost" command.
Check that all needed hosts are present and HypervisorType is "HyperV". If it is "Unknown", then something is wrong here. Check that SILA can connect to the remote host using the specified credentials. Ping the remote host using the specified FQDN and check that the SILA Hyper-V Account you've used is added to "Hyper-V Administrators" and  "Remote Management Users" local groups.
If you see that there were recent polls, then everything is OK:
There is an alternative way to add Hyper-V hosts if you have System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) in your organization, and those Hyper-V hosts are managed by VMM. To do this you need to add SILA Hyper-V Account (silavmacc) to VMM group with Fabric Management permissions. This user account must be able to list all Hyper-V hosts in your environment and it must be added to "Hyper-V Administrators" and  "Remote Management Users" local groups on every host you plan to add to SILA. After that, run these commands under SILA Service Account and specify SILA Hyper-V Account credentials when prompted.
$Credentials = Get-Credential
Add-SilVMHost -HostCredential $Credentials -SCVMMTargetName "FQDNOFVMMSERVER"
But remember - this command is only used to discover all available Hyper-V hosts. After that SILA will try to connect directly to every host as usual. To be honest - I don't see any additional value in this case. For my it is much simplier to add all Hyper-V hosts to the single OU and configure+add all of them using the scheduled script I've provided.
Add VMWare vSphere hosts
SILA polls data from vSphere hosts directly using PowerCLI. vCenter is not required for SILA. I've tested this solution with vSphere 5.5 and vSphere 6.0. Although v6.0 is not officially supported, it works without any issues.
 To configure vSphere host for SILA manually, connect to vSphere host directly using vSphere Client. Go to "Local Users & Groups" tab.
 Create a new user, that will be used as SILA vSphere Account. In my case it is "silavsacc".
Go to "Permissions" tab and assign Read-only permissions for the user.
 To automate the process of creating such local user on every vSphere host, use PowerCLI. Here is the example of the script:
$VMHostname="FQDNofvSphereHost"
$rootpassword="vspherehostrootpassword"
$accname="silavsphereaccountname"
$accpass="silavsphereaccountpassword"
Connect-VIServer -Protocol https -Server $VMHostname -User root -Password $rootpassword
New-VMHostAccount -Id $accname -Password $accpass -Description "SILA vSphere Account"
New-VIPermission -Entity $VMHostname -Principal $accname -Role ReadOnly -Propagate:$true
But I want to warn you - I receive an error on the last command with a description: "Local group accounts are not supported since ESX version 5.1". I couldn’t find a resolution of this problem, here is a thread on VMWare site. So this script creates a user, but it doesn't assign ReadOnly permissions, you need to do it manually via vSphere Client. If you'll solve this issue - tell me the solution, please.
After SILA vSphere account with ReadOnly permission is created on every vSphere host, you can just add them one by one. To do this, just run these commands in PowerShell under SILA Service Account and specify SILA vSphere Account credentials when prompted (in my case - silavsacc).
$Credentials = Get-Credential
$HostFQDN =
"
FQDNOFVSPHEREHOST"
Add-SILVMHost -VMHostname $HostFQDN -hostcredential $Credentials
Run Get-SILVMHost command to check that the host was added. Check that the host HypervisorType is "ESXi". If it is "Unknown", then something is wrong here. Check that SILA can connect to the remote host using the specified credentials. Ping the remote host using the specified FQDN and check that the SILA vSphere Account you've used is created on a host and assigned ReadOnly permissions.
Also you can add all vSphere hosts, managed by vCenter. If your vCenter runs on a Windows Server, then go to Computer Management console of this server and create a local user with the same name as SILA vSphere Account. In my case it is silavsacc. Then connect to vCenter with vSphere client and assign this user ReadOnly rights:
Then run this script under SILA Service Account and specify SILA vSphere Account credentials when prompted (in my case - silavsacc):
$Credentials = Get-Credential
$vCenterFQDN="
FQDNOFVCENTER"
Add-SilVMHost -HostCredential $Credentials -VMWareTargetName $vCenterFQDN
This commands gets a list of all vSphere hosts, managed by the specified vCenter server. After that, SILA uses the specified SILA vSphere account to connect to every vSphere host directly, vCenter is not used any more. Check that all needed hosts were added with Get-SILVMHostcommand:
There can be a situation, when vSphere hosts are successfully added to the list, HypervisorType is "ESXi", but there are no successful polls during next several hours after adding. The most possible reason is that local SILA vSphere account is not created properly, of the account name and password that you used when you added hosts via vCenter was OK for vCenter, but it is not OK for vSphere hosts - different account name or password, for example.
OK, when you've added all the hosts, check again after several hours - there must a timestamp of the last Recent Poll. If this field is not blank, then everything is OK:
Add KVM and Xen hosts
OK, now I will briefly describe how to add KVM and Xen hosts to SILA. First - you need to create local user account with appropriate rights on every Xen or KVM host. There are several ways to do that - from using root account (simple, but not recommended) to creating a Read-only user account with appropriate permission on KVM\Xen. SILA uses sshnet to communicate with Linux hosts.
To add a single KVM/Xen host, run this PowerShell script under SILA Service Account and specify credentials of a recently created local user:
$Credentials = Get-Credential
$HostFQDN =
"
FQDNOFTHEHOST"
Add-SILVMHost -VMHostname $HostFQDN -hostcredential $Credentials
If you need, modify the script to get a list of all KVM/Xen hosts from a file and run Add-SILVMHost command for every host in the list. Then check that all the hosts are visible when you run Get-SILVMHost command and HypervisorType is "KVM" or "Xen".
OK, that's all for today. Try to add all the virtualization hosts that you have to SILA to get the most complete report, as you see - SILA is flexible and works with all popular virtualization platforms. In the next post I'll show how to configure Guest VM inventory using SIL.
