Yes, there are 3D printers, but there are also 3D scanners, and Gavin Gear – who we think is having way too much fun – shows how he uses MakerBot’s recently released Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner to create his lovable monster head, using Windows 8.1.
On the Extreme Windows Blog, Gear notes that the Digitizer makes it easy to upload scanned 3D models to MakerBot’s Thingiverse website, and to print them with your 3D printer.
“Because 3D printing support is built into Windows 8.1, 3D printing is now a seamless process on Windows,” he writes. “It’s easy to print from 3D printing aware Desktop apps and Windows Store apps, and you can also monitor and cancel print jobs just like you do with your inkjet printer.”
