When attempting to use the Difference Tool to compare changes on the Change History Details page when clicking on the Old or New Value in Audit and Control Management Server 2013:

you may receive the following error:

The content type text/html of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (text/xml; charset=utf-8). If using a custom encoder, be sure that the IsContentTypeSupported method is implemented properly.

To fix the error, log into the ACM web server, go to Server Manager > Manage > Add Roles and Features, and in the Features list, enabled HTTP Activation in .Net Framework 4.5 Features > WCF Services:

Perform an iisreset. The difference tool will then compare the values successfully:

Script Download:
The script is available for download from https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com//How-to-grant-permissions-1f1b46e5.  You can also use  Microsoft Script Browser for Windows PowerShell ISE to download the sample with one button click from within your scripting environment.

This T-SQL script will demo how to grant permissions to a user-defined role and assign the role to some of the users in a specified database.

As some customers want to know how to grant some permissions to some users, it is better to create a user-defined role and grant it to the users who need the role permission. In this script, users will get all the permission from login except the permission of deleting rows in a table.

Merhaba Sevgili Wiki Ailesi ;

Sysvol migration - Migrating to the ‘ELIMINATED’ state

$
0
0

I was recently working with a customer helping them migrate to the Eliminated state of Sysvol migration so I thought to highlight the steps that we took for this migration.

Before the migration, we verified:

- All domain controllers are in the Redirected state. Run dfsrmig /getmigrationstate against each domain controller in the domain to verify this. It is very important step

- Run net share to verify the Sysvol share. Confirm that Sysvol share is still being shared out by all domain controllers and that the Sysvol share path points to the path that is being replicated by the DFS Replication service

- Verify Active directory replication. You can check this by running the command repadmin /replsum.

Once the prerequisites are verified, you can run the below command on the PDC Emulator to migration Sysvol to Eliminated state:

dfsrmig /setGlobalState 3

Use dfsrmig /getMigrationState’ to confirm that each domain controller has reached the Eliminated state. When the DFS Replication service on each domain controller reaches the ‘ELIMINATED’ state, Information event 8019 will be registered in the event log.

Outlook for Mac for Office 365 New Email Notification Options

$
0
0

Outlook for Mac for Office 365 has several new email notification options available to configure so you can customize how you are notified of new emails you may have missed.  This blog post will explain these email notification options.

Note: Email notifications only appear if you miss the email arriving in Outlook.  This means that if Outlook is the selected application (if the Outlook application menu is visible, as shown below), the email notifications will not appear.

Image

In order to have email notifications appear, Outlook must not be the selected application.

Outlook for Mac 2011 Notifications

Outlook for Mac 2011 had limited options when it came to notifications for new messages.  These were located under the Outlook menu, Preferences, Notifications and Sounds.  You had the options to enable or disable the desktop alerts, choose how much information displays on the alerts, and whether or not to have the Outlook icon bounce in the Dock.  You also have the option to display sounds when a new message arrives and other events.
Image

The notifications for new email in Outlook for Mac 2011 were not able to be customized in appearance, and always appeared similar to this:

Image

Outlook for Mac for Office 365 Notifications

Outlook for Mac for Office 365 offers some additional options when it comes to notifications because they are now integrated in the Mac OS X Notification Center.  The same options are available in the Outlook Notifications and Sounds Preferences as in Outlook for Mac 2011, nothing has changed there, however now additional options can also be configured in the Mac OS Notifications for Outlook.  You can access Outlook for Mac’s Notification Center preferences by opening System Preferences, clicking Notifications and then selecting Microsoft Outlook from the list of applications on the left.

Image

There are options for alert styles (None, Banners, Alerts), and options regarding Notifications.

Banners vs. Alerts vs. Notifications

When you configure the Notification Center preferences, an important thing to understand is the difference between Banners, Alerts, and Notifications.

Banners and Alerts are small windows that appear in the upper right corner of your screen when a new email is received.  Notifications appear in the Notification Center, which is the gray bar that appears on the right side of your screen when you click the menu icon at the top right (circled in the image below).

BannersImage
AlertsImage
NotificationsImage

You can enable or disable Notifications independently of Banners or Alerts.   It is possible to enable both Banners and Notifications or Alerts and Notifications.  Here’s an example of having Alerts selected for your alert style and having Notifications enable as well:

Image

You can also choose None as your alert style and still have Notifications enabled, or disable Notifications but still enable Banners or Alerts.

Alert Styles (None, Banners and Alerts):

The alert style options available are None, Banners, and Alerts.  Let’s go through the differences between these first.

None:

  • No new email notifications are displayed on the desktop when this option is selected.

Banners:
Image

  • Banner notifications are the default option selected in the Notification Center.
  • Banners appear for 5 seconds and then disappear on their own.
  • Banners do not have any buttons, however you can click on the banner in order to open the email.
  • If multiple emails arrive in Outlook at the same time, still only 1 Banner will display at a time.

Alerts:
Image

  • Alerts do not disappear on their own.  You must dismiss them by performing an action on them, which are as follows:
    • Click Close to dismiss the Alert.
    • Click Delete to delete the email and dismiss the Alert.
    • Click on the email in the Alert to open the email and dismiss the Alert.
    • Open the main Outlook window and mark the emails as read.
  • If multiple emails arrive in Outlook and you do not dismiss the Alerts, multiple Alerts will display.  If enough alerts accumulate, they will begin to stack on top of each other (as shown below).

Image

Notifications

Notifications are enabled by default, and will appear in the Notification center until you take action on them, such as by clicking the alert to open the email, or marking the email as read in Outlook.  Items in the Notification Center will also disappear as new items arrive, based on the number of recent items you have selected to be shown in the Notification Center.  Here's a screenshot of the options available regarding Notifications for Outlook.

Image

Some of these are self-explanatory while others are not extremely clear.  Here’s an explanation for each option:

    • Show notifications on lock screen
      • Enabling this setting will display banner style notifications (even if you have Alerts selected) on the lock screen or screensaver.  They disappear on their own after 5 seconds.
    • Show in Notifications Center: [# Recent Items]
      • When this is enabled, new email notifications will appear in the Notification Center in addition to the Banners or Alerts.  These will appear in the Notification Center even if you have selected “None” as your alert style.
      • When this is enabled, you can choose 1, 5, 10, or 20 recent items to be displayed in the Notification Center.  The default is 5.
      • Disabling this will stop new emails from appearing in the Notification Center.

    • Badge app icon
      • This displays the number of new emails on the Outlook icon in a red circle.
      • Here’s a comparison of the results of having this option enabled vs disabled.
        Image
    • Play sound for notifications
      • This option is overridden by Outlook’s preferences for sounds under the Outlook menu, Preferences, Notifications and Sounds.

Here’s a summary of the main features and behaviors for the different notifications:

Feature / Behavior Banners Alerts Notifications
Enabled by default YesNoYes
Disappear on their own after 5 seconds YesNoNo
Will remain until you take action on them NoYesYes
Allows you to delete an incoming email directly from the notification NoYesNo
Only appear when Outlook is not the selected application YesYesYes
Multiple notifications can appear at the same time NoYesYes

Sivakumar Venkataraman - Click for blog homepageThe Connector for Microsoft Dynamics v3 Cumulative Update 4 was released earlier this month. This was an important release which provided the support for integrations into Dynamics CRM 2015. However, it no longer supports Dynamics CRM 2011 or Dynamics CRM 4.0

Some of the interesting features of this release have been listed below.

  • Support for CRM 2015, which requires the updated CRM solutions included in this release (1.0.1603.5) - these CRM solutions include "CRM2015" in their file names
  • These solutions also provide support for both the summary and information forms for the targeted entities within CRM 2015
  • New mappings for Microsoft Dynamics AX and CRM Contact integration that handle the new address 3 fields included in CRM 2015 contacts properly.  Those changes can be found in the map changes section.
  • The required Microsoft .NET Framework versions (3.5 and 4.5.2) are checked for during installation.  The Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.5.2 can be downloaded here: web installer or offline installer.
  • The new integration template for creating and integration between Microsoft Dynamics GP and CRM using CRM contacts has been removed
  • All previous updates for CU 3 have been incorporated into this release

To download this release for your Microsoft Dynamics ERP system, go to Customer Source:

  • Connector for Microsoft Dynamics AX
    • If you have applied AX 2012 R2 CU 6 or later or if you are targeting AX 2012 R3, an XPO is no longer needed.  You can run the ConnectorHelper class that is included in those releases to accomplish the required setup tasks in AX 2012 R2.
    • Any release after Connector V3 CU2 (3.2.606.2) will support AX 2012 R3
    • AX 2012 R3 CU 8 is fully supported
    • The contact integration maps have been updated to include mappings for the new CRM 2015 address 3 fields, see the map changes section for more information on these changes
  • Connector for Microsoft Dynamics GP
    • All previously supported versions of GP 2010 and GP 2013 are supported
    • GP 2015 is fully supported
    • The ability to create an integration from a template using GP customers and CRM contacts has been removed
  • Connector for Microsoft Dynamics NAV
    • Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 and all previously supported versions of Dynamics NAV are supported with this release
    • If you are targeting a multi-tenant deployment of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 this release will make that configuration and integration process easier.  The steps outlined in this post are no longer need with this release of Connector for Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Connector for Microsoft Dynamics SL
    • Previously supported versions of SL continue to be supported by this version

Uploading High Resolution Photos using PowerShell for Office 365

When first trying to upload a high-res photo for user’s mailboxes, you’ll likely start with the manual for Set-UserPhoto and try to write some Powershell script like the below command:

$user = 'john.doe@contoso.com'

$userphoto = "C:\Temp\"+$user+".jpg"

Set-UserPhoto -Identity $user -PictureData ([System.IO.File]::ReadAllBytes($userphoto)) -Confirm:$false

(Documentation for Set-UserPhoto is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj218694.aspx)

When trying to run this, however, one might run into is an error when trying to upload a >10 kb photo, saying “The remote server returned an error: (413) Request Entity Too Large”. There is a fix for this! In the script that you use to create an Exchange Online Powershell session, make sure that the yellow highlighted section below is added. The normal proxy method won’t work for >10kb files.

$ExSession = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/?proxymethod=rps -Credential $MSOLCred -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection

Run the first script again, and it now works great with larger photos!

Do keep in mind that the photos you upload should be 648 pixels by 648 pixels if you want the maximum photo size for Office 365. That size comes from the Lync documentation, which explains how Exchange creates the multiple sizes that get used throughout the system. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688150.aspx

Log-Event

Recently I had a need to write to the event logs using PowerShell.  I knew there was a built in command for this action so I decided to test it out.  After some time using the Write-EventLog cmdlet, I kept getting errors generated which seemed to be symptoms from the following constraints of the event log itself.  When using the cmdlet, the following apply:

-You must specify a source and a log (Application, System, etc) to write to.  An example of a source would be “Windows Error Reporting” in the Application log.

- A source can only be associated with one event log.  If you attempt to write an event using the source “Windows Error Reporting” to the System log, you will get the following error: The source 'Windows Error Reporting' is not registered in log 'System'. (It is registered in log 'Application'.)

Since the Write-EventLog cmdlet makes you specify the log to write to with the mandatory –LogName parameter, this can be problematic because you have to know which log the source is associated with.  From a programmatic perspective, you can’t guarantee all computers everywhere have the source “AutomationLogs” registered, and you also can’t guarantee which event log this is registered to.

I developed the following function to assist me in writing to the event logs that I plan to implement in a lot of my scripts moving forward.  I wanted to be able to call a command and specify what I want to write and not have to worry about sources, log locations, registering new event logs if needed, and so on.

The function first checks to see if the source is already registered with an existing log.  If the source exists, the function leverages the static method LogNameFromSourceName from the System.Diagnostics.EventLog class to determine which log to write to.  If the return from this function is null or an empty string, we know the source does not exist and will have to register a new event source to the desired log (as passed in by the caller).

This function requires administrative access in an elevated command prompt, because it needs to check the Security log, and this access is also required when registering new sources.

According to the MSDN documentation regarding creation of event sources– after registering a new event source, it should not be immediately used.  I am not sure exactly how long we should wait but I assumed 5 seconds is ample time for whatever replication/post-processing tasks need to happen on the back end before we use this.

I have tested this on Server 2012 and 2012 R2, but any machine with PowerShell 3 or later should be able to leverage the function.  The function is below and can also be found on the TechNet Script Gallery here.

function Log-Event {
    param(
        [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)]
        [ValidateNotNullorEmpty()]
        [String]$Message,

        [ValidateNotNullorEmpty()]
        [String]$Source = "ScriptOutput",

        [int32]$EventID = 1,

        $LogName = "Application",

        [System.Diagnostics.EventLogEntryType]$Type = "Information"
    )
    try {
        $SourceLogName = [System.Diagnostics.EventLog]::LogNameFromSourceName($source, ".")
        if (![string]::IsNullOrEmpty($SourceLogName)) {
            Write-EventLog -LogName $SourceLogName -Source $Source -Message $Message -EntryType $Type -EventId $EventID
        }
        else {
            New-EventLog -Source $Source -LogName $LogName
            #After register new event source, do not use right away, accoring to MSDN:
            #http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2awhba7a(v=vs.110).aspx
            Sleep 5
            Write-EventLog -LogName $LogName -Source $Source -Message $Message -EntryType $Type -EventId $EventID
        }
    }
    catch {
        Write-Warning "Unexpected error occured while attempting to write to log."
        Write-Warning "Caller command: $((Get-PSCallStack)[1].Command)"
        Write-Warning "Error: $($_.exception.message)"
    }
}
