Talk Solutions with us at SharePoint Conference 2014!

If you’ve thought, “I wish Microsoft would tell me more about how to set up SharePoint 2013 on-premises to work with Exchange Online,” or “I’d really like to know how to deploy eDiscovery across my Exchange Server and SharePoint Server environments,” we want to talk with you!

Microsoft Office has formed a solutions content team whose reason for being is to help you learn how to build solutions using on-premises products like Exchange Server 2013 together with services such as Office 365 and Windows Azure. We’ll be at the Office Content Publishing booth at the SharePoint Conference next week in Las Vegas, and we’d really like to talk about solutions with you – such as those we’ve been developing at Solutions using Office Servers and the Cloud. For example: * SharePoint Disaster Recovery in Windows Azure – Learn how to use Windows Azure as a viable disaster recovery platform for your SharePoint 2013 deployment. * Internet Sites in Windows Azure using SharePoint Server 2013 – Use Windows Azure infrastructure to create SharePoint 2013 sites that can keep your costs low and scale as your needs dictate.

We’d also like to hear about solutions that you have in mind.

We’re also going to be hosting some design-time sessions with individual customers at the conference. They’re intended to help you plan and build a solution based on SharePoint 2013 and Office 365. A couple specific areas of focus are hybrid environments, where you use SharePoint 2013 on premises and Office 365 offerings together, and on SharePoint with Azure. Check out the Invitation to Design Time sessions at the SharePoint Conference 2014 to see if you’re eligible to participate.

We hope to see you there!

Azure adatközpontok IP címei (2 legyet egy csapásra...)

$
0
0

(...és most jön a második légy)

Kérdés, hogy mit kezdünk ezzel a listával? Az igény ami miatt általában fel szokott merülni ez a kérdés, a következő: "Szeretném a vállalatom belső hálózatából üzemeltetési céllal (értsd RDP protokollal) elérhetővé tenni (vagy éppen korlátozni) az Azure -ban futó szolgáltatásokat/erőforrásokat." Ember legyen a talpán, vagy üzemeltető legyen a tűzfalon aki ekkor IP tartományokat bekrampácsol. De akkor mégis milyen lehetőségeim vannak? A következőket tudom javasolni:

Office 2013 SP1 Released – How about Click-to-Run?

$

Josh Condie - The SP1 updates for the Windows Installer (MSI) versions of the Office 2013 desktop products, and for the SharePoint 2013 server products, are available from the Microsoft Download Center as of February 25th, as well as from Microsoft Update and the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) catalog. After a 30-day period, SP1 will begin releasing as an automatic update through Microsoft Update.

SP1 for Exchange Server 2013 is also releasing today. Visit the Exchange team blog to learn more about it.

What’s new in SP1?
SP1 provides fixes to improve general stability, functionality, and security in Office, SharePoint Server, and related products. Among the functionality improvements and changes are the following:
  • Compatibility fixes for Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.
  • Better support for modern hardware, such as high DPI devices and the precision touchpad.
  • New apps for Office capabilities and APIs for developers.
  • Power Map for Excel, a 3D visualization tool for mapping, exploring, and interacting with geographical and temporal data in Excel, is now available to Office 365 ProPlus subscription customers. You can learn more about Power Map general availability on the Power BI Blog.
  • Improvements to the Click-to-Run virtualization technology that installs and updates Office 365 desktop applications.
  • SkyDrive Pro is now OneDrive for Business.

**If you have the Click-to-Run (non-MSI) version of Office, via Office 365 subscription, you will be prompted to update within the next two weeks, or you can follow the instructions on the click-to-run support page to update now.

Click-to-Run and Office Updates

By default, Click-to-Run for Office 365 installations are automatically updated. The automatic update process detects and downloads the new data in the background. The updates are installed in the background as soon as the download is completed. However, the installation may be postponed if a resource to be updated is being used by an Office application that is running. In such cases, the updates are automatically applied the next time that the application is cycled or when the application is started by the user.

The updates are kept as small as possible and they download only when changes are required to keep the installation up-to-date. This optimizes network bandwidth use. Updates occur only when the affected Office applications aren’t being used and they don’t require a computer restart.

A version of Office 365 ProPlus that includes each month's updates is available for download from Office 365. Administrators can turn off automatic updates to control which updated builds are deployed and when they are deployed. Monthly updates are recommended. However, some administrators may need additional time to test the updated build in their environment.

A monthly build is available for download from Office 365 for up to one year (12 months). After that, the build is no longer supported. Administrators should check that their Office 365 ProPlus installations use a supported build that contains updates within the last year.

Administrators can configure updates behavior by using the Configuration.xml file for Click-to-Run. The following Updates element attributes are available:

  • Enabled   If set to TRUE, Click-to-Run will automatically detect, download, and install updates. This is the default. If Enabled is set to FALSE, Office won’t check for updates and will remain at the installed version.

  • UpdatePath   Can be used to specify a network, local, or HTTP path for a Click-to-Run installation source to use for updates. If UpdatePath isn’t set, or is set to special value “default”, the Microsoft Click-to-Run source on the Internet will be used.

  • TargetVersion   Can be set to a Click-to-Run for Office 365 product build number, for example, 15.1.2.3. When the version is set, Click-to-Run for Office 365 attempts to update to the specified version in the next update cycle. If TargetVersion isn’t set or is set to special value "default," Click-to-Run for Office 365 updates to the latest version advertised at the Click-to-Run source.

For information about Configuration.xml syntax, see Reference for Click-to-Run configuration.xml file.

I discuss the application integration capabilities of Windows Azure Active Directory (WAAD).  How customers can use WAAD to manage user access to their Office 365 subscription AND user access to over 750 Microsoft and third-party applications!  Organizations can easily manage user access to all of their cloud services right from one user management console in the cloud.  The ease of setting this up is the most exciting part!  Following is simple guidance on setting up your centralized cloud management on WAAD:

Step 1:  Setup access to your Office 365 WAAD console http://www.msexchange.org/blogs/walther/news/accessing-an-office-365-tenant-using-the-new-windows-azure-active-directory-manager-waadm-726.html

Step 2:  From your Office 365 WAAD console, start adding your third party cloud service application integrations.  Following is an example of adding a Dropbox integration in the Azure portal:

Login to your Azure portal at https://manage.windowsazure.com and click on the “Active Directory” tab on the left pane.  Click on the directory used to manage your Office 365 users.

image

Click on “Manage access to applications”:

image

Click the “Add” option on the bottom bar

Choose “Add an application for my organization to use”

image

Select the checkbox on the bottom-right to add the application integration to WAAD

image

Follow the application specific instructions to configure single sign-on for your newly added service.  It’s that easy!

Add additional application integrations that your customers are using.  Accessing the cloud has never been this easy!

Weekend Scripter: Create Entries for Birthdays from Outlook Contacts List

Summary: Use Windows PowerShell to access your Outlook Contacts list and create calendar entries for birthdays.

Honorary Scripting Guy, Sean Kearney here. And today is my birthday!

You would think that being an IT person with Microsoft Outlook and other resources in front of me, it would be very easy to track birthdays. You would THINK that.

But I’m…let’s say…absent minded.

Now the interesting thing is that in many cases, I will track a lot of the birthdays in my Contacts when I create them within Outlook. For example, here is one for a fake person called Mr. Smith:

Image of calendar entry

As you can see I have his birthday stored away with his Contact details so that I should be able to at least remember he has some type of birthday. But of course, we have a snag…that is that I’m lazy.

If I look at my calendar, we’ll see a small glitch. On this most important day of days for Dr. Smith—while he’s floating up in his big spinning space saucer—as I glance at my calendar, I notice something missing. His birthday is not entered.

Image of calendar

“Odd…” I think to myself because Outlook 2013 will automatically populate the calendar entry for birthdays. But then I realize that this contact was created a long time ago, and so his birthday was not self-populated by Outlook.

There are a few ways to resolve this.

  1. Type in the calendar entry directly.
  2. Edit the birthday manually and hope that it works to repopulate it.
  3. Let Windows PowerShell find the birthday in the Contacts list and build the calendar entry for me.

Because I think there is more than one birthday that might be missing, and I happen to like playing with Windows PowerShell on a Saturday, well I’ll go the Windows PowerShell route.

So our first challenge: Connect to Outlook with Windows PowerShell:

$Outlook=NEW-OBJECT –comobject Outlook.Application

Well, that was easy. So next we want to get our list of contacts in Outlook. We do this by accessing the Contacts list, which is a default folder type within Outlook.

To access special folders we access the GetSpecialFolder method in the Outlook ComObject. Contacts are DefaultFolder type #10.

$Outlook.session.GetDefaultFolder(10)

But this is just the folder as an object. We need to access the individual items. This is done by literally tacking on items as a property:

$Outlook.session.GetDefaultFolder(10).items

Displaying it on the screen, of course, is only cosmetic. We need to store this away so we can access the properties directly:

$Contacts=$Outlook.session.GetDefaultFolder(10).items

Now if we execute Get-Member against this object, we’ll see that there are many useful properties. We want to see if we can read the birthday date and maybe something with the name details.

$Contacts | GET-MEMBER –membertype Property *Birth*,*Name*

In the following image, we can see lots of Name properties, and the birthday date is clearly accessible. For our purposes, I would like to access only the Display Name and the Birthday. I can use these details to build a birthday in the calendar:

Image of command output

$Contacts | Select-object Fullname,Birthday

But wait, some people might not have a birthday entered! I check the contact information for Doctor Smith’s handler, Will Robinson. For some reason, I do not have his birthday recorded, so I can see what a blank birthday looks like:

Image of command output

So blank dates for the birthday will be represented somewhere far, far, far in the future— January 1 in the year 4501! About the same time Dr. Smith will learn to behave.

So let’s put this into Windows PowerShell and store the information away:

$BirthdayInfo=$Contacts | Select-Object FullName,Birthday | Where { $_.Birthday –ne ([datetime]”1/1/4501”) }

Good! Now that we have the needed information, we’ll want to populate the entries in the calendar. Let’s create a new calendar item. This is done by accessing the CreateItem() method in Outlook and specifying Item Type # 1 for appointments:

$NewEntry=$Outlook.CreateItem(1)

We need to supply some information for our calendar entry, specifically the Date it is to occur and some Subject details:

$NewEntry.Subject=”John Q Smith Birthday”

$NewEntry.Start=[datetime]”5/3/1921”

I would like this to appear as a recurring appointment, so we’ll need to access the Recurrence property of the calendar item. This is actually done in a weird way. We need to get the recurrence pattern first:

$Recur=$NewEntry.GetRecurrencePattern()

When we have the recurrence pattern as an object, we need to supply it some information. First we have to supply some special values. It’s an all-day event, which is 1,440 minutes. Our interval is once every 12 months (unless you know of somebody who has a birthday more often than that):

$Recur.Duration=1440

$Recur.Interval=12

Now we specify that it’s a yearly occurrence and that it never ends:

$Recur.RecurrenceType=5

$Recur.Noenddate=$TRUE

When we have this information set, we need only save the calendar item:

$NewEntry.save()

Now we pull all of this together into a simple loop to have the computer do the work for us:

# Connect to Outlook

$Outlook=NEW-OBJECT –comobject Outlook.Application

$Contacts=$Outlook.session.GetDefaultFolder(10).items

# Get only Contacts with a valid Birthday

$BirthdayInfo=$Contacts | Select-Object FullName,Birthday | Where { $_.Birthday –ne ([datetime]”1/1/4501”) }

# Step through the list of contacts and create Birthdays in the Calendar

Foreach ($Entry in $BirthdayInfo)

{

# Create New Calendar Item

$NewEntry=$Outlook.CreateItem(1)

# Populate Calendar Details

$NewEntry.Subject=$Entry.Fullname+”’s Birthday”

$NewEntry.Start=$Entry.Birthday

# Access Recurrence pattern

$Recur=$NewEntry.GetRecurrencePattern()

# Setup Recurrence Patterns

$Recur.Duration=1440

$Recur.Interval=12

$Recur.RecurrenceType=5

$Recur.Noenddate=$TRUE

# Save the Calendar entry

$NewEntry.save()

}

And now we have a way to go through all of my contacts and NOT forget all of their birthdays! So much easier than type…type type…type type type…type…*GrOooooAAAAaaaannn!*

Now back to a little birthday cake and a toast to any of you who are using Windows PowerShell. The best present of all for an IT pro!

By the way if you’re wondering about a birthday tune, download the Windows PowerShell Popcorn Tune from the TechNet Gallery, and replace the $MusicString contents with these lines:

# Our 'Sheet Music' - 5 characters define each note and beat.

# First three are the note, the last pair are the beat

$MusicString=@"

Engedélyezzük a MAPIHTTP-t

$

Bővebb információt a protokollról itt találhatsz: http://blogs.technet.com/b/zoltanh/archive/2014/01/30/mapihttp.aspx

A frissített, MAPIHTTP képes eszközeink profitálni fognak belőle.

Ezért hát a két virtual directory.

A szolgáltatás engedélyezése viszonylag egyszerű feladat. Az Organization szintű beállítás értékét false-ról, true-ra kell állítanunk, amit a következő parancs segítségével egyszerűen elvégezhetünk: Set-OrganizationConfig -MapiHTTPEnabled $true

Ha a parancs sikeresen lefutott, akkor készen is vagyunk. De csak részben. Ezen a ponton a MAPIHTTP képes kliensek az AutoDiscover válaszban visszakapják a MAPIHTTP beállításokat. Ezt egyszerűen ellenőrizhetjük a Test E-mail AutoConfiguration futtatásával:

A többi beállítás mellett, a kliens megkapja a MAPIHTTP elérési utat.

A Set-MAPIVirtualDirectory cmdlet segítségével megadhatjuk a külső elérési nevet.

TMG esetében egyszerűen adjuk hozzá a /mapi/* elérési utat a PATH-hoz:

  1. Engedélyeztük Organization szinten a protokollt
  3. Engedélyeztük a tűzfalon a külső hozzáférést

Ne is keressük többé. Viszlát. :)

Exchange

Tip of the Day: Wait Chain Analyzer

Today’s Tip…

I work primarily on Setup technologies, and so, have had very little chance to use the Resource Manager on Windows Server 2008/2008 R2. However, while playing around with the task manager on Windows 8, I found something that was only available on the Resource Manager earlier, which I found quite helpful while troubleshooting some issues on my personal system.

On Windows Server 2008/2008 R2, the Resource Manager provided a “Wait Chain Analyzer”…

<screen shot of the resource manager on 2008 R2 >

clip_image001

This was not available on the task manager.

With Windows 8, the “Analyze Wait Chain” option has been moved to the process information on the details tab of the task manager.

<screenshot from the task manager on Win8>

clip_image002

This makes it more easier to access the Wait Chain of a process as compared to accessing it through the resource manager, and to understand where a process is waiting… very frequently (and in my experience) while troubleshooting an installation issue, this can really help us understand exactly what process we need to concentrate on.
