Autolib’, a car-sharing solution, is using Windows Embedded technology to help the 8 million people in and around Paris realize a smarter, more connected commute.

“It’s a vivid reminder of how Microsoft and Windows Embedded technology can have a positive impact on daily life — here, by relieving traffic congestion and pollution, and giving millions of Parisians a better way to get where they’re going. The Paris program is so successful that it’s expanding to the U.S.; it’s just been announced that the solution’s developer is planning to launch a similar Windows Embedded-based solution in Indianapolis, sometime in late 2014,” says Barb Edson, general manager of marketing and business development, on the Windows Embedded blog.

In addition to this video, the team recently profiled the company’s cutting-edge solution on the Windows Embedded News Center.

The Autolib’ story is just one example of Microsoft’s CityNext initiative, a new program aimed at helping cities around the world harness technology to improve people’s lives. Just this week Microsoft and the city of Seattle unveiled details behind a creative pilot program aimed at reducing power consumption in commercial buildings.
