For more than two decades, nonprofit organization TED has been a harbinger of inspiration and innovation. Now, for the first time, TED has partnered with Skype for its “Ideas Worth Spreading,” enabling experiences and conversations that extend to all corners of the globe.
TED and Skype are natural collaborators – in March, the two brought voices from around the world together for a spectacular live performance on stage at TED 2013. In the performance, composer Eric Whitacre used Skype to transform his virtual choir into the first virtual live choir where 30 singers from 28 countries joined their voices together in one powerful performance.
Recently, Skype was part of the TED “Found in Translation” Sessions at the TED Global conference in Edinburgh, based in the Open Translation Project Lounge. These interactive sessions connected TEDGlobal speakers, session hosts, fellows, attendees and TED translators. Many of the sessions took speakers straight from the main stage via Skype to a global audience, where viewers could learn and explore the impact and meaning of powerful topics.
