As Build 2013 wraps up, we got to see some exciting developments, including the preview releases of Windows 8.1 and Visual Studio 2013.

A lot of attention is going toward the latter over on The Visual Studio Blog (naturally). In this post, those folks want you to know how this update brings forward significant advances for authoring XAML-based Windows Store apps for Windows 8.1. These tips will help take good apps to the next level of great.

Not only is this preview introducing new features to the XAML editor, but also debuting guide and ruler mechanisms. This helps with the flexibility of Windows Store apps, which “should be designed to work under a number of different form factor settings, and hence require constructs that are not tied to any one particular static layout.”

Responding to customer feedback, this preview also includes improvements to style and template editing in that users no longer will need to switch from the document they’re working on to the one defining the style/template.

Read the rest of the post to check out other additions, such as new controls, and updates to the device panel and project templates.
