Movies Made Easy; Microsoft Stars for CineTrailer

As TechEd Europe kicks off today in Madrid, Spain, we are excited to announce a major digital media company has decided to move their operations over to Microsoft.  CineTrailer, a pan-European app developed by DDM, an Italian digital media agency, has moved its back-end technology to Windows Azure from Amazon Web Services to help people choose and view movies online, on mobile devices or connected TVs. The company has also built its app for optimization on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.

Everyone loves a good movie, and CineTrailer makes it easier to find the best place to watch a flick. The application allows people watch a trailer and then find the nearest theater where the movie is playing using GPS, all from their computer, phone, tablet, or TV. People can also bookmark their favorite theaters and put a calendar alert to be reminded of the moment a desired movie is playing. CineTrailer app has been made available in nine languages and in 11 countries throughout Europe, and since the migration to Windows Azure in 2012 it has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times.

Why did CineTrailer make the move? Employees were already familiar with other Microsoft platforms before the deployment, like Visual Studio, ASP and SQL Server. This meant less time was needed for developers to get comfortable with the platforms and allowed an increased focus on getting a powerful and intuitive product to market. They also believed the investment to move to Microsoft products has tremendous potential with developers, which allows them to provide their customers with the content they want, when they want it. It just made sense.

Also at TechEd Europe, we announced the immediate availability of the preview software for Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2, and SQL Server 14. Customers will be able to use these solutions holistically to break down boundaries between datacenters for true hybrid cloud – across their own datacenters, service provider datacenters and Windows Azure. Building on our experience of delivering more than 200+ cloud services, Microsoft is on a roll and moving fast with enterprise cloud.
