In a guest post on the Microsoft Accessibility Blog, Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin writes about how she learned Xbox One could be used for watching closed captioned movies and television shows, connect with friends over Skype and surf the Web. Until then, she thought that her four children would be using it mostly for marathon “FIFA 14” and “Madden NFL” games.
She uses Xbox One to watch favorite new shows such as “Orange is the New Black” and “Girls” with closed captioning through Netflix and HBO. Matlin lobbied Congress nearly 30 years ago to help bring closed captioning to television.
And now, she writes, “Everyone should be able to watch TV shows and movies on their phones, tablets and computers, and that means including closed captions.”
She’s looking forward to finding out more about the console.
“I may not have used all of Xbox’s accessibility tools yet, but trust me I’ll be learning more about Skype and Kinect,” she writes. “After fighting for closed captioned access for three decades, it’s my responsibility to get ahead of the technology curve.”
