Knowing how many developers use and rely on the MSDN forums to learn and bounce ideas around, Microsoft has refreshed its forums, Brian Harry announced today on his blog.
“We’ve worked really hard to substantially improve the experience both for people looking for answers and those providing them,” writes Harry, a Microsoft technical fellow working as product unit manager for Microsoft’s Team Foundation Server. “We started by making it easier to find what you are looking for – instead of navigating categories to find those that might be relevant, we’ve started with search as the entry. You can search directly from the root and get results immediately. The categories show up on the right hand side allowing you to filter your results.”
Other improvements include creating more space to post content, posting previews so you can see what the thread is about before opening it, and being able to collapse categories. And now that the forums handle searching on premises, it’s easier to find threads that are highly related.
