Attention developers -- Microsoft released some Windows Azure updates to make it significantly easier to develop mobile applications that use the cloud.
If you’re jazzed by phrases such as “Custom API Support,” “Git Source Control Support,” and “Android Broadcast Push Notification Support,” you’ll want to check out Scott Guthrie’s blog.
Guthrie, the corporate vice president of Microsoft Server and Tools, also announced that starting today, every customer of Windows Azure gets one 20 MB database to use for 12 months free for both development and testing as well as production of web sites and mobile service. Upon creating a new mobile service or website, simply choose the option, “Create a new free 20 MB database” to take advantage of the offer.
The Windows Azure Mobile Services updates can be used to support Windows 8, Windows Phone, iOS, Android and HTML5 client applications.
The new features are live and available for use immediately (note: some of the services are still in preview), so happy building. Or, if you don’t already have a Windows Azure account, sign up for a free trial. To learn more about how to build apps with Windows Azure, visit the Windows Azure Developer Center.
