One of the first things I did when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 was to select a new image for my desktop, and now my choices – and yours – have expanded to a new series of themes for your Windows device that include photography from folks who responded to an Open Call for submissions.

As the Windows Experience Blog reports, the new series includes Community Showcase: Aqua, with images from 21 different photographers that let us marvel at the oceans, rivers, lakes and other waterways that encompass our world. The first photo in this collection is “Shortbreak Curl,” above, by Mark Middleton. Community Showcase: Fauna features wildlife photography from 21 different contributors. Community Showcase: Everyday Art shows off images by 20 Open Call contributors.

Most or all of the photos in these first three Community Showcase themes were already published in the Personalization Gallery as part of the now-retired dynamic themes. If you have an older version of Windows that can’t use themes, don’t worry, the Windows folks publish new wallpapers on a regular basis (some of those are also from Open Call participants, too). To see each photographer’s name, open the wallpaper image to full size and look in the lower right-hand corner.

Keep checking the Personalization Gallery for more new themes and wallpapers to make your Windows device your own, and read all about the latest in themes from the Windows Experience Blog.
