The Bing Translator app is handier than ever, now that it’s been updated with speech-to-speech features that allow you to use your device’s microphone to place cafe orders, ask for directions or make actual conversation and hear the translation in a native speaker’s accent.
Speak the word or phrase you want translated into any of more than 40 languages (as you already can using the Bing Translator app for Windows Phone 8).
The translation also appears as text. You can rely on the app as a constant companion – especially when you need to quickly translate signs. Point your camera toward a sign (or menu, newspaper or anything with words printed on it) that you need translated, and the app will superimpose the translation on the screen. (Hello, subtitles for life!)
Text and camera translation work offline with downloadable language packs, so you can get the power of Bing Translator on-the-go, even when you don't have an Internet connection. (Voice translation does require a network connection.)
You can even use the app to translate text from other Windows Store apps using the Share charm and save your translations (and edit them if necessary).
To learn more about these bridge-building apps, the Bing Search Blog recommends checking out the Translator for Windows and the Translator for Windows Phone product pages.
Install the Bing Translator app from the Windows Store and read more about it on the Windows Experience Blog.
