The Microsoft in Health blog is learning from its customers about their mobile health needs, and have shared three things those customers love about working with Windows devices: side-by-side apps, classic Windows apps and a bevy of security features.

As the blog reports, “More often than not, clinicians need to use more than one application at a time to do their job. With Windows 8.1, they can do that. For example, if they’re working on a prescription for a patient, they can have the patient’s record up in their electronic medical records system (EMR) and, at the same time, have a drug reference application open next to it, enabling them to check on dosages.”

Health professionals can also access their key clinical systems when they’re on the move. As you can see from the video above, Palmetto Health care providers can tap into their enterprise EMR application on Surface Pro tablets to review patient records and complete documentation on the fly. It’s improving their efficiency so much that they’re able to see an average of two more patients per day.

Customers keen on security and privacy have also favored user-based access control and multi-layer authentication, as well as the ability to remotely wipe organizational and health data from an employee’s personal device (without wiping the whole device).

Read more about how Windows 8.1 has become a favorite with health care providers on the Microsoft in Health blog.
