Panasonic launched the world’s first 4K tablet – and 20 inches to boot – at the Consumer Electronics Show, and the company said the tablet will start shipping in the U.S. soon. (With 4K technology, display resolution is multiplied by four for much finer and smoother video images.)

Gavin Gear of the Extreme Windows Blog got hands-on with the tablet, which is known as the Toughpad 4K Performance model, and geared to professionals in computer-aided design and video editing. The tablet weighs 5.6 pounds.

The upgraded version of the Toughpad 4K Tablet will be available starting at $5,999. Panasonic displayed both the standard and performance models of the Toughpad 4K Tablet at CES this year.

The new performance model has several key differences compared to the standard model: Among them, it uses an Intel Core i7 processor (the standard model has an Intel Core i5 processor); the performance model uses and an NVIDIA Quadro K1000 GPU (the standard model has an NVIDIA GeForce GT745M GPU); and the performance model also has a 5 MP rear camera. Upgraded ports including full-size Ethernet and mini-DisplayPort out.
