Panasonic’s Toughpad line – which more than merits its name for ruggedness in enterprise devices – has a new family member, the Toughpad FZ-M1 tablet, unveiled Jan. 6 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Toughpad FZ-M1, which will run on Windows 8.1 Pro, will be released this spring. The Intel Core i5 tablet has a 7-inch screen, weighs only 1.2 pounds and is seven-tenths of an inch thick. The portable powerhouse "was designed with 'can-do' in mind," writes Gavin Gear on the Extreme Windows Blog.
The tablet is "ruggedized to take on almost any situation. Because the Toughpad FZ-M1 is built on a 4th generation Intel Core i5 vPro processor, it can run any Windows app you want to throw at it. With a claimed 8 hours of battery life, you can take this rugged PC with you anywhere and work with it all day without charging."
Many in the mobile workforce “need tools they can depend on in challenging conditions to get the job done without compromise,” said Rance Poehler, Panasonic System Communications Company of North America president, in a press release. “The Toughpad FZ-M1 is built for those workers.”
The tablet’s “highly portable and compact size, power, connectivity and configuration options, and sheer toughness make it the ideal tablet to connect mission-critical workers of all types with the data they need to do their jobs at any time.”
As with its other Toughpad models, the company will offer a full set of enterprise-grade accessories to support the FZ-M1, including cases, mounts, printers, keyboards and multi-unit storage and charging solutions.
The FZ-M1 will be available in several different configurations. The Toughpad FZ-M1 Intel Core i5 vPro processor model will sell for $2,099.
The specs are impressive on the Toughpad FZ-M1, but there also are some great options that make it highly customizable. Some of those include dedicated GPS, barcode reader, NFC reader, SmartCard reader, 10-foot range RFID, magnetic stripe reader and multicarrier embedded 4G LTE wireless connectivity, writes Gear.
