If you’ve got any devices that are still running Windows 8.1 Preview or Windows RT 8.1 Preview, you’ll want to update them to final release versions through the Windows Store before Jan. 15. That’s when the preview versions expire, writes Ben Hunter on the Springboard Series Blog.

“If you installed the Windows 8.1 Preview or Windows RT 8.1 Preview from the Windows Store, you can update to the final release through the Windows Store by following the instructions available here,” he writes. “Note that you will have to reinstall all of your applications (desktop or modern) after doing this.”

Both preview versions were released earlier this year, and Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 have been generally available for a few months now.

Users who installed a volume license version of Windows 8.1 Preview for evaluation purposes should install a “fresh version of Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 8.1 Enterprise for ongoing use,” Hunter writes.

If you need to upgrade an existing machine, you can do so by using volume license media. For more information about how to do that, and to read Hunter’s post, head over to the Springboard Series Blog.
