It’s that time of year when catching up with family climbs to the top of holiday to-dos, and when you can’t be with the ones you love in person, you’ll probably be using Skype to get in touch with them.
Skype’s Tips & Tricks blog will help you make the most of that precious time by preparing your settings for best Skype call quality.
“Having good light in your room really helps in getting the best Skype call quality,” Matthew de Beer writes. “A well-lit room is one where there is a good amount of ambient light and where you won’t have any bright lights right behind you.”
He also advises “a space that is quiet,” but has also has echo-absorbing qualities, such as “a soft comfy couch.”
Final tip: “Steer clear of dark backgrounds or your facial features will fade away.” Because digital cameras like webcams struggle to differentiate between a dark object in a well-lit room and an object in a dark room, sitting against a dark background will trigger your webcam to amplify light. This will lead to your face looking “blown out,” like this overexposed pelican.
Don’t look like an overexposed pelican. Heed de Beer’s advice on Skype’s Tips & Tricks blog and chat with your family and friends in the best light possible.
