Pedcor, an affordable housing and commercial property management company with 500 employees in 77 locations around the U.S., has successfully turned to Surface 2 and Windows 8.1 to help in all aspects of its business.

The company, which has built more than 10,000 apartment units around the country, is involved in all of the steps it takes to bring a project to life, “from development and design all the way up to management, and they’re using Surface to do this,” writes Cyril Belikoff, director of Surface, on the Windows for your Business blog.

“Pedcor found Surface Pro 2 to be the one tablet device with the power to run all of the apps they need, including Visual Studio and the System Center tool set, while also offering the hardware capabilities that designers need,” he writes. “Designers are using the Surface Pen and full-HD display to create sketches in digital format that they can quickly and easily send through for approval.”

Sumeeth Evans, vice president of IT for Pedcor, says that “Surface is one device that can transform itself from being plugged into a dock and a desktop, or being a tablet without the keyboard, or being a laptop with the keyboard.”

Surface is so robust, says Yong Choe, senior vice president of IT for the company, that he has “actually replaced my desktop with the Surface and a docking station.” That makes it handy for him to take his new “desktop” with him when he needs to leave or go to a meeting offsite, he says.
