Data isn’t just growing, it’s exploding. No one knows this better than the IT leaders trying to figure out the best way to manage it all without ending up with too much, or too little, storage. Traditional storage solutions aren’t known for their flexibility. Predicting needs is difficult, and upgrades can be costly and disruptive. There is another way.
A post on the Windows Server Blog outlines Microsoft’s hybrid cloud storage, which integrates a StorSimple on-premises Cloud-integrated Storage (CiS) system with Windows Azure Storage. According to the post, Microsoft’s hybrid cloud storage solution delivers “uninterrupted, pay-as-you-grow capacity expansion in Windows Azure.” That means customers pay only for the cloud storage capacity they use, versus over-buying capacity in advance. The post adds that data is protected automatically by copying it to the cloud, where it can be kept for virtually any amount of time without the high cost of replication or the complications of working with tape.
Take a look at the Windows Server Blog to learn more, including how StorSimple manages capacity so that administrators never need to worry about “running out” of room, and “best use” scenarios to help decision makers determine whether Microsoft hybrid cloud storage the right fit for their organization.
