Craftsmanship. Design. Refinement to the tenth of a millimeter. The Xbox One console was developed with all of these in mind to become the ultimate gaming and entertainment system.

In a new Xbox Wire post, Carl Ledbetter, creative director of Industrial Design at Microsoft, and other members of the design team talk about the big ideas and small touches that went into creating something customers old and new will love.

“Xbox has always had something to say. It’s always been bold with a strong personality,” Ledbetter says. “Xbox One needs to serve our most loyal gaming fans and deliver unique entertainment experiences, so its design has to make an appropriate statement that reflects its capability as an all-in-one entertainment system.”

The design team needed to make every aspect of the Xbox One modern and sophisticated – from its appearance to its software – and decided the only way to accomplish this was to build Xbox One from the beginning as an integrated system.

Read more about how the team achieved a design that was simple and inviting, while making sure the console’s performance was flawless.
