Skype and Lync customers around the world can now connect. Beginning today, Skype users can IM and audio call colleagues, partners and customers who are using Lync, Microsoft’s unified communications platform for organizations of all sizes. And Lync users can connect to Skype from Lync 2010 or Lync 2013, including any of the 2013 mobile clients.
This is Microsoft’s first step in combining the enterprise richness of Lync – which provides a single experience for presence, instant messaging, voice, video and meetings and is owned by over 90 of the Fortune Global 100 companies – with the global reach of Skype. A major goal is to remove barriers that keep people from connecting on the devices they use most. Over time, more capabilities will be added, with video calling the next priority.
If you use Skype, read the Skype blog post to see how it works and get started. If you use Lync, either as a user or administrator, see the Lync blog post.
