[Azure] – IMPORTANT: Upgrade DirSync and Azure AD Sync to Azure AD Connect

0
0

All -

Azure AD Connect is the successor to DirSync and Azure AD Sync and it combines all scenarios these two supported. That said, I wanted to make you aware that DirSync and Azure AD Sync support is ending in a year from now. Azure AD is the recommended way to connect on-premises directory with Office 365 and Azure AD.

Deprecation schedule:

  • April 13, 2016 -- Windows Azure Active Directory Sync (“DirSync”) and Microsoft Azure Active Directory Sync (“Azure AD Sync”) are announced as deprecated.
  • April 13, 2017 -- Support ends. Customers will no longer be able to open a support case without upgrading to Azure AD Connect first.

How to transition to Azure AD Connect:

Domingo - Wiki Life - Visual Studio "15" e Update 2

0
0

https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/news/vs2015-update2-vs.aspx

(SQL) Tip of the Day: Setting MAXDOP in V12

0

Today’s Tip…

A change between v11 and v12 SQL Azure Databases was allowing queries to go parallel. As such, you can see queries wait on CXPACKET waits. The former fix was to add the WITH (MAXDOP = 1) hint to the query. Sometimes though you see a large number of queries hitting this issue. Now you can set your MAXDOP at the database level with:

Interview with a Wiki Ninja & Azure Developer - Hussain Shahbaz Khawaja

0
0

Welcome to Interview with a Wiki Ninja! This week's interview is with...

Hussain Shahbaz Khawaja

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/profile/hussain%20shahbaz%20khawaja/

Hussain Shahbaz Khawaja's avatar

Hussain is from the Microsoft Innovation Center in Lahore and has completed 10 articles!

Example articles:

Wiki stats:

  • 10 Wiki articles
  • 38 Wiki edits

It's great to learn more about Hussain, so let's get started!

===============================

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

I'm Hussain Shahbaz Khawaja from Pakistan. Graduated from International Islamic University, Islamabad a few months back.

I started my journey with Microsoft in 2014 when I was selected as an MSP. I've also been a part of Internship Batch in Microsoft Innovation Center. Their strong eco-system and developer network tailored me to achieve more.

Currently, I'm self-employed. Working on indie games & apps for UWP.

Besides UWP, I've a keen interest in Azure. I'm also preparing for its certification.

I love to help the community, it seems a very healthy activity to me. I've given session on game development, in Microsoft Innovation Center and in many other universities, in past. Also planning to launch an online training series soon.

Hussain at the Cloud Dev Camp in Lahore.

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

Many. There are a lot of active contributors who are helping community. But I'd like to mention one name, Saad Mehmood. He is an MVP from Pakistan. I like how he goes out of the way to help others. In fact, he was the one who encouraged me to contribute to TechNet Wiki in first place. He have won 6 guru awards so far (I guess) and now I'm aiming to break his record :)

I love to explore nature. Here I'm at Sajikot in the middle of the mountains.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

The following two are the ones which I like most:

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

One of the amazing things about TechNet Wiki, which I like most, is mutual contribution. Everyone can edit anyone's article. In this way, everyone learns alot and their knowledge remains up-to-date. Also, contributions have increase so much that you can find almost any solution here that revolves around Microsoft technologies.

Here I'm delivering a session on game development.

Do you have any tips for new Wiki authors?

Although I consider myself a beginner but would like to mention just two things. One, keep writing. Share with the community whatever you learn. Secondly, keep an eye on monthly guru award. Yes, anyone can get that only if you are focused and consistent.

Teaching students at Hour of Code in 2015.

In what other sites and communities do you contribute your technical knowledge?

I also contribute regularly on C# Corner. Have also been awarded by WINNER OF THE MONTH title in November 2015.

Besides that, I help people in my local community. I love to extend my help towards nyone who requires guidance around UWP, Unity3D or ASO.

=====================================

Special thanks to Hussain for a great interview and for great contributions! We're sure you'll win those Guru medals soon!

Please join me in thanking Hussain for his contributions! And...

Join the world! Join TechNet Wiki.

Content not lost

Several months back during some winter storm a power outage hit the building where I keep all my lab machines.  Once power was restored I went to bring all my machines back up but found two had been fried in the surge and needed to be replaced.  One of the dead boxes was my file server used for all the source packages I distribute with configuration manager.  It was just my lab and none of my content was critical, but there were a few things that I wanted to recover, update, and redistribute.

In the current versions of SCCM you can't easily go recover your package contents from a distribution point (DP) because of the single instance storage used in the content library.  However, If you live in logs, as many ConfigMgr admins do, then you have probably seen in the CAS log the lines where a client finds a DP location for a given package/application.  The cool thing about this is that the web interface of accessing the packages will recreate the package contents out of the content library for you.  You can use this URL to access the source package and download all the original files into a new source folder, then edit and update as appropriate as the new source file location for your already existing package/application.

Then plug into IE:

So there is the general process.  Click each file and save it to the new location.  I know that is easy to say for packages with minimal numbers of files.  It is harder if you have some package with a large amount of files and sub folders.  I haven't had the need but in concept you could code up a script to make web service calls similar to what ConfigMgr does when it pulls to the local client cache and recreate more complex things that way.  If a customer who pays for my time ever asks I will be happy to put that script together...., or let you, the community, do it first and post a link here.

Top Contributors Awards! March 2016

All the votes are in!

And below are the results for the TechNet Guru Awards, March 2016 !!!!

The TechNet Guru Awards celebrate the technical articles on TechNet, contributed from valued wiki authors like YOU!

Each month, the contributions are scored by a panel of judges (5 per category, 2-3 in each are MS experts), and the winners of each category are showered with love and attention from all corners of TechNet.

See the links at the bottom, to find out more about the competition and how to enter.

We have picked the top three highest scored contributions for each category to bestow our awards upon.

The awards are in gold, silver and bronze, the gold obviously being the top winner of the category.

The last column is just a few of the comments judges made during the judging process.

In some cases, we have not obtained permission to use the judges names, so they have been reduced to initials.

My fellow wiki ninjas will be digging deeper into some of these articles in this blog series, so watch out for those.

Starting this month you will notice some articles are marked as failing to meet our minimum bar for quality or content.

Any of our judges can exercise their right to veto an article, if they do not feel it meets minimum requirements for a medal.

When this is the case, we will at least give an indication of the reason, so you understand why.

A big thank you also to the other authors who did not make the top three of each category.

Some articles only just missed out, so we may be returning to discuss those too, in future blogs.

How to enable FIM Powershell MA logging in the eventlog

0
0

With the links (Technet and TechNet blog), they only demo how to log the Powershell verbose trace to a file.  What if we would like to enable them in the default windows eventlog for further monitor?

here’s the section you shall put in the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service\bin\miiserver.exe.config, and do not forget to restart the FIMSynchronziationService. After that, we shall be able to have these events with source “ConnectorsLog” under application.

<source name="ConnectorsLog" switchValue="Warning">
      <listeners>
             <add initializeData="ConnectorsLog"
                  type="System.Diagnostics.EventLogTraceListener, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,  PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"
                   name="ConnectorsLog" traceOutputOptions="LogicalOperationStack, DateTime, Timestamp, Callstack">
                   <filter type="" />
             </add>
      </listeners>
</source>

Another approach to delete all users from FIM portal

0

When you are in the design or dev phase for a FIM/MIM solution, it is very likely that you want to purge all the user account (of course, the built-in admin and FIMMA account are excluded) in the FIM portal. You probably already find the existing delete script in the internet for the purpose, however its performance may not be ideal considering the below two factors.

1. The script composes a single request for each user.

2. Every single request will be evaluated with the existing request-MPRs.

As i mentioned in my previous blog, FIMMA introduces the async and bulk mode during export. So the approach here is to leverage the built-in FIMMA account (note: FIMMA account type is a resource not a user in FIM Service) to delete the users in batch mode.

1. Choose the MA which contributes the metaverse most (we take ADMA as an example here), and modify the object deletion run as below.

    image

2.  Configure the deprovisioning rule of FIMMA as below

     image

3. Delete the connector space of the ADMA

4.  Run Full import on the ADMA, inside this step it will trigger the metaverse deletion rule and then FIMMA deprovisioning rule. Note: No sync profile is needed here.

5. Run Export on FIMMA, it will then delete all the users in FIM Service .

6. Revert the changes done in step1,2
